Burning eyes is high CO2, be very careful with that stuff.

    co2/argon

When going from flux core to solid wire make you swap polarity on the welder. You should be fine with 75/25 mix for most welding.

Anoyone use a Thermal Arc Fabricator 181i?

I actually went with this machine on the recommendation of another fabricator and I knew that I was taking a chance. Honestly it is amazing and you can't beat the price. I have been welding with it for 6 months now. Comparable machines are 2-3 times as much. For what I have done with it so...

Buying a Tig Welder & Taking a Class**

Looking great Louis. Those welds look super strong. Don't sweat the stainless, I think it's easier to weld than mild, because there is less impurities in the metal.

    Ultrasonic addiction, cannot stop.

Yep. The guy that sold us ours said that you could even clean electronics in it as long is it was deionized water.

Nice score. Here is the one we have at work. I think that I'm the only one who uses it. A couple of weeks ago I had an entire rear end housing in there for about 6 hours.

Anoyone use a Thermal Arc Fabricator 181i?

Nobody? I think that I will go ahead and get one. My small Lincoln 135 may be for sale soon.

Anoyone use a Thermal Arc Fabricator 181i?

Price seems right although it doesn't come with the tig stinger or foot pedal. The cool thing about is that it's 3 in 1 tig, mig and stick. The duty cycle is not great at 180 amps, but I prefer to not overheat metal anyway. The reviews look good...

    show off the garage

I ran out of room in my garage at home so I have to rent a shop 40'x40' a couple of blocks away.

Here is my homemade valve spring compressor. Cut up rocker shaft and stamped rocker, a piece of rod stock and small scrap of tubing. Works great.

    looking for a mig welder

I have both 110-220 on argon mix and I use my little Lincoln SP-135T for 99% of stuff, even .134" wall DOM. I usually try to preheat the thicker stuff a little before. The only time I use the 220 is on anything 1/4" an up and usually use flux core outside.

Anyone build their own engine run stands?

It will be a big improvement over the factory piece. Just send me a pm if you want one. BTW I used to live in Kingwood Texas, just north of Houston. I am missing the weather right now. It was 1 degree this morning.

Anyone build their own engine run stands?

Thanks for the link Louis. Looks like a good plan. I like the way that it folds up.

Anyone build their own engine run stands?

You can drill out the spot welds and replace the factory piece or you can just simply weld it in behind the factory piece. There is plenty of room.

Anyone build their own engine run stands?

Thanks for the advice. I do have many more radiator supports. I plan on building them as long as people buy them.

Anyone build their own engine run stands?

I want to build one and need some ideas. My 360 is done and I haven't even started on paint and body yet. It would be nice the hear the thing come to life for some motivation. Let's see pics of what you did for ignition, fuel setup and gauges.

    Got my birthday present today.

Sure have Cliff. She purrs like a kitten. No complaints so far and gives me plenty of air my tubing bender and air tools. I can't wait to do a paint job with it.

    Got my birthday present today.

Yep Iron cylinders. After I bought it I looked at the reviews. Good and bad, I guess it is hard on head gaskets with constant use, but I don't use a compressor very much, so hopefully I will be alright.

    Got my birthday present today.

I love my wife. She let me buy this today, only because my other compressor is dying. It's 60 gallons and plenty of flow to power my tubing bender. The previous owner used it one time and decided that he didn't need it. Like new and comes with a Snap on filter/dryer. All for $325.

Building my own tubing bender. Update: Done!!!!!

Building my own tubing bender. Update: Done!!!!!

With the ram it only took me about $250 to build, not including any dies. It helps having access to a machine shop at work. I machined all of the brass bushings myself and reused some scrap Thompson shaft that I had stashed.

Building my own tubing bender. Update: Done!!!!!

I'm still waiting for my dies to get here. Dang UPS. I am going down to pick up my DOM tubing today and get this thing going. What do you think? Painted it in Bright Blue Metallic that was left over from my truck.
