Lets hear your suggestions for a winch for a car trailer.

I strongly suggest you get a remote control winch. Makes it real nice to be able to steer the car as you are pulling. I have am older Harbor Freight 1500 lb winch on my trailer. At the time I paid around $29.00 on sale, I use it "double" line. I have short ramps so a fairly steep upward pull...

bending 5/16 parts store steel line

Copper nickel brake tubing meets all ASE specs for automotive brake line. I have no qualms about using it in any auto brake application. I would use ni-cop before using stainless. Stainless (in my opinion) is too hard. Hard to flair, hard to bend. But it does look nice, and will not rust, but...

    welder/welding

One thing no one mentioned. When using "gas" , don't have a breeze blowing in the welding area (fan or outside). It will blow the shielding gas away from the torch, and have a lousy weld. I usually use gas inside, but use flux core when welding outside. I actually have three wire welders already...

Early A body Brake SprAng Tool

That's what I did. Used a Phillips with a shaft diameter, that just fits down inside the spring. Cut the tip off. I put a little bit of a notch in the end to engage the spring. Makes it a little easier if you need to bend or twist the spring, to release it from the anchor.

    Couple DIY pullers off youtube

Pretty neat, but time is money. For the amount of time one would spend making these tools, it would be cheaper to buy, or "rent" from the part store.

    Does anyone remember these?

Not automotive, but I have about 16 Qts of Quaker Maid outboard motor oil, in the cardboard cans. Says for two and four cycle engines. Use where SAE 30 or 40 is recommended. Use in ratios up to 50-1. Contains QM-9 special additive. Looks like this. Vintage Quaker Maid Outboard Oil Full Can, 1...

    Plastic Fuse Pullers-What a Joke

I use the plastic pullers for the blade type fuses. They work if you grab them near the fuse, so they don't pop off. For the round glass fuses, I just bend a hook in a cotter pin.

Just a FYI, With the MSD, be carefull, connecting ANY test equipment to the coil. The MSD supplies several hundred volts to the coil (not 12 volts), and can burn out some test equipment.

    Shop lights, recommendations

I had both 48 inch and 96 in florescent in my shop. Just finished converting to direct wire(no ballast) LED's. What a difference. In the 4 ft fixtures, I just removed the ballast, and change the wiring to the "tomstones". In the 8 ft fixtures it was more work. I had to modify the fixture to...

    shop lift liability?

Had a similar situation. New homeowners insurance company said I had to remove all untagged vehicles from my property. I have several. Wheel stud swedge cutting tool

Just a FYI. The tool required for cutting the swedge on "A" body brake drums, is available from Goodson Tool. It is required to remove the swedge when removing the studs, to prevent ruinining the hub. Their part number is ST-437 for 7/16 studs, and ST-500 for 1/2 studs. These tools are on...

$75 to calibrate a torque wrench?

WoW. I had an old Snap On 1/2 inch "Dial" type torque wrench, given to me a couple of months ago. Caught the local Snap On dealer truck at a local shop, last week. Asked him about getting it checked. He had a "tester" bolted to the wall of his truck. Put the wrench on it, pulled, and compared...

Who can recommend a good Freon A/C electronic leak detector?

Many different types of leak detectors out there, and they all have pros and cons. These are my opinions: Best electronic H-10 Bacharach - H-10 PRO Refrigerant Leak Detector expensive, and too sensitive to pinpoint large leaks Soap solution (dawn and windshield washer fluid 50/50, in a spray...

    Garage fire

It is a little late at this point, but for future referance. Most collector car insurance companies, have provision for cars under restoration. It is not expensive. You decide the value of the car, at it's currant point of restoration, and can increase the value as work progresses.
