Wheel hub questions for 10 inch drums

Let me hazzard a guess. The bad studs were on the driver side. Those are left hand thread from the factory. Many of those have been snapped off by trying to turn them counter clockwise trying to remove the nuts. That just tightens them more. Need to turn them clockwise to remove them. Just the...

Wheel hub questions for 10 inch drums

You can use a stud with a larger dia knurl. Just drill out the hole in the hub to the proper size for the knurl you use. You most drill the hub in a drill press. It is important to get the hole square to the drum mounting surface. You will have to search for the correct stud. You will want to...

    Hub drilling

I didn't read every reply, so that said these are my thoughts. There is no problem with drilling the rear axles/drums, and front hubs/drums from 4 inch to 4.5 inch. I have been doing it for many years and cars. I made a drill fixture to make it easier. The hub and drum are pretty critical to get...

Since the only thing you really disturbed, was the front calipers, I'm thinking execssive caliper piston movement was the cause of your problem.

No problem, that's how we all learn. Just an FYI. For a long time those drums were not available new. Then Centric started making them or fixed the catalog. One of the members on here found them and posted the information. I could be wrong, but I think Centric is the only source.

8 3/4 Rear End Brake Shoe Help

I never bothered to measure the rear drum "overall" width. I usually measure the "wear" area. If you are measureing the total width, across the full width from the outer edge to the mounting area, that has to be more the 1 3/4. If you allow a 1/4 inch on the inside, and a 1/4 inch on the...

    10 inch front drums needed

Just remember the drums are locked onto the hub with the swedge on the wheel studs. You must cut the swedge before removeing the studs or you will ruin the hub. Hubs are not available new, and getting harder to find used.
  28. C

    Left side lugnut studs

Correct. Changing the front studs, requires cutting the swedge on the old stud. If you just try to pound/press the old studs out you will ruin the hub.

    Wheel stud swedge cutting tool

There are several ways to do this. I just posted the info on the tool designed for the job. Many people are not aware of needing to remove the swedge, and there being a tool available. This used to be a common tool in a mechanics box, but I just recently became aware of it still being available.
