    Additive Friction Modifier

Amsoil claims that the oil reduces wear. If I were to go 25k miles on the oil I would change the oil filter every 5k and do an autopsy on it to see if I could gage the amount and type of wear metal being captured.

Push Start a Torqueflite For Me

I pushed started my friend’s 1964 Belvedere 383 727 auto back in 1976. I think the motor kicked over when we got up to about 25 mph. We tied a couple of tires to the front of my car to protect both cars.

You can be “posi-tive” about those splines when you first get a “sure-grip” on your “third member”.

    8 3/4 posi unit change

Have you considered installing the 3.23 carrier as is and driving it for a while? You may find that it does quite well on the highway without the sure-grip feature. How often are you going to race the car?

How hard is it to change ratios in an 8-3/4"?

Bill Crowell, I have bought two different carriers (“chunks”) for my 8 3/4 that is in my Duster. Currently it has a 3:23 ratio in it. Now I have 3:55 and 3:91 carriers available. Changing them out takes a couple of hours or a day depending on equipment such as jack stands, ramps, or hoist. I...

Easy Way To Flush Out A Converter?

I asked the same question of a local transmission shop that is now second generation owned. He told me to drain the converter, fill with fresh fluid, shake it, drain, and repeat. Then fill it with clean fluid and install it.

    Low Gear 727 with 3.23s

This is my plan for my final 340 configuration. I have a 742 chunk with 3.23s and a 741 chunk with 3.91s. Both of them are clutch type sure-grips. I plan on using a ThermoQuad to take advantage of the small primaries for the 3.23s and the humongous secondaries for the 3.91s.

Pictures/diagrams of column shift linkage with SB 727

It appears that if you mount the bracket on top of the ear, the bend in the bracket will put the torque tube lower than the ear and in line with the frame bracket.

Pictures/diagrams of column shift linkage with SB 727

A previous owner substituted a 318/904 into the car and kept the original 340 engine mounts. They jury rigged the engine to fit by moving the mount tabs to the wrong side of the ears. This resulted in the whole drive train to be out of proper orientation. They made a Mickey Mouse trans torque...

krazykuda, here is link to my post from a few years back. I included a diagram for a column shift linkage on a 1971 Valiant with a small block and auto trans. Hope it helps. http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=146300&highlight=Transmission Oh, BTW, my Duster is a factory...

    727 vs 904?

From the discussion it seems that you have to get the 904 "built" in order for it to perform. Or does it outdo the 727 when both are in factory stock form?

    Torque Converter draining

A friend gave me a 727 tranny and torque converter for free that sat on a shelf outside his garage under plastic. Long time transmission shop in my area with plenty of experience in older cars told me to just drain the old fluid out by flipping the torque converter over a bucket. Fill with...

    Identifying a 3:91

If the unit is still a factory one then the part number, gear ratio, and date would be stamped on the outside surface of the ring gear. You might have to rotate the gears to see it. Otherwise it is the usual method that you are already familiar with. Fishy was faster than I was with the info. LOL

    rebuild a torque converter?

X2 on the flushing machines being gone. I was given a 727 tranny and torque converter by a friend. It had been sitting outside under plastic for 4 years. I took them to a local tranny shop that is now owned and operated by the son of the original owner. He is in his 50s and still works on all...

    Keisler Engineering Filed for Bankruptcy

Band Adjustment and Shift Kit Question

A friend of mine gave me the 727 TF out of his 1972 truck that had a 318. He told me it had been sitting for about 5 to 6 years and that it had a new torque converter and a shift kit. He couldn't remember what brand shift kit was put in by the tranny shop that did the torque converter nor what...

3.91 gears for shorter 60 mph trips

I agree X2. Back in the 1970s my big block Mopar used to cruise at 65 - 70 mph with the tach showing 2200 - 2500 rpm while in 4th gear. The sound of the engine with its headers and glass packs was pleasing. Of course, if I wanted to listen to the radio, I had to crank the volume up to eleven!

What stall for my 340 727????

I am interested in opinions too as I will be running the same 340 setup 727 and 3.91 gearing. The 727 is a 340 tranny so there might be a slight difference. I did manage to pick up a 2500 stall converter for a good price last year and I was told that it would work just great.
