    Carter Thermoquad question

If the front throttle blades are stamped 314, it’s the big one. If they are stamped 315, it’s the small one.

    Carter 750 float level

Ahh, so never deviate from factory manual carburetor calibrations. Got it. I here ya. Thanks

    Is anyone running a 4425S Carter on a 68 340 engine?

There are idle mixture screws buried under the lead, just below the 2 aluminum plugs. Good chance that they are frozen. As Mattax said, that top screws controls idle air only.

How can I tell if my outboards are opening on a six pack?

If your neck isn’t stretched back over the backseat, then they are not opening

    Thermoquad primary shaft leak

Kevin, looks like your picking up some rust from the fuel system. It only takes a spec to hold the needle off the seat. Your floats weight out fine. I’ll give it a good cleaning and bush this throttle shaft. Better do some flushing on the fuel system while I have your carb. There can’t be much...

Weird /6 BBD issue (internal flooding?)

You’re barking up the wrong tree with the gasket idea. The screw you mention is for idle FUEL mixture. Which is air and gas. What typically happens is the Idle feed restrictors are sized too small for today’s fuel. That is why it wants the screw backed out all the way. When this fails to run...

    Thermoquad primary shaft leak

First off, I told you on May 6 I would have a look at it. Secondly if the fuel is soaking both gaskets then the needle and seat is not shutting. Heavy float or some debris in it. It has fuel dripping after shut down gauranteed. That is why it is coming out around the throttle shaft. Instead of...

    Physically Impossible

With 180* or 190* T-stat, when you shut down and walk in the house, she will spike to around 210* -215*F. Anyone with a carter who thinks they have it bad, should see the tiny fuel capacity of a Quadrajet. Especially the early Quadrajet.

    Physically Impossible

    Today’s pump fuel is approximately 50% vapor @ 170*F.

    Thermoquad fuel leak

When the car is not running and fuel is squirted on the shaft it will find its way out. On a running motor the problem is almost non existent. I rebuilt that carb for him last year. I must have judged that shaft to be ok. The TQ has a lot of shaft hanging out there unsupported, so any wiggle is...

    Thermoquad running rich

Get it warm and let it heat soak a while, check the timing at idle. Pull a plug, lay it somewhere that will be grounded and crank the engine. Note the spark color and intensity. Also I have read a couple posts that you mentioned have adjusted the carburetor. Check that your idle mixture screws...

N96 Fresh Air on an A body

Has anyone seen this done or attempted. I wonder how much farther the scoops are apart than on an a-body. Just throwing this out there. Thanks

Help an idiot fix his carb

Hang on pal, that 9077 likely was used in conjunction with the Electronic lean burn computer. It would have had a throttle closed switch on the passenger side and a lever bolted to the primary throttle shaft on the passenger side, and THAT is where the idle speed was set. Without the ELB...

Yep, that’s what they do. Yes, I bush about 50% of them.

    Maybe a new carb?

There are a few subtle differences in baseplates. I have’nt had a need to try interchanging, but you could try it. I would rebush it for $40.
