    Bent flexplate

The little circled spot is the only bent part. The flexplate as a whole is still straight. Maybe a better word is it got dimpled a bit. The converter wouldn't wobble, starter sounds nice and even, but I can't start it because it's apart until my new balancer comes in.

    Bent flexplate

I'm making around 380-400hp, so nothing crazy. I'm most worried about it being out of balance and messing up the trans or main bearings.

    Bent flexplate

Hey guys, been away for a while and haven't been posting, been so damn busy! I was removing a crank bolt and stopped the motor by using a wrench in a flexplate hole, well it slipped a bit and made a dent in one of the holes. I'm not sure if it's bad enough to pull the trans and replace it. I'll...

    Rear identification

Yep, that's a 7 1/4. Hopefully there isn't much power in front of that lol

Just bought everything for 3.73 gears

I've got 4.10 gears in my dart and I love them! I really don't drive on the highway much so it doesn't bother me. I'm running a 28 inch tire, and it's about 3500 rpm on the highway, I forget the speed because I didn't change my speedometer gear yet.

    727 transmission fluid question

I use john deer high guard in my transmission. Been there for two seasons behind a 400+ hp 360. Mainly used it because I had a whole bunch of it already lol

    4.10s

I just put them into my dart and absolutely love them! like stated its a bit over 3000 on the highway, but I built my motor to have fun with and that why I put those gears in. Off the line takeoff burns the tires into second and third so better tires may be a good idea.

    Rear End

I just completed this swap on my dart. Had the 7.25 that was a trooper. My 360 is putting out well over 400 hp and it somehow lasted for a few months. Throwing in the 8.75 was super easy, and the 4.10 gears are way more fun than the 2.76 gears that the 7.25 had.

Early 8 3/4 axle shaft interchange

The third member fits into the housing just fine, so I don't know what it is but it will work. Also I got some moser axle shafts. From what I understand a stock axle shaft length is 27 11/16ths. They say they are stock a body axle shafts, but when I measure from the spline to the outside of...

Early 8 3/4 axle shaft interchange

It has 10 I believe, and says 8 3/4 on it. I had another thread about what it was and everybody thought it was an oddball third member too

Early 8 3/4 axle shaft interchange

    It's definitely 983. And I'm 100 percent sure it's an 8 3/4.

Early 8 3/4 axle shaft interchange

It's a 57 case, but it's a 983 case, had this discussion earlier and I think the consensus was 741. But I don't have axle shafts yet, i need those still, but I want to find stuff locally as the enhange rate is horrible so ordering from the states isn't gunna happen! So getting the green bearings...

Early 8 3/4 axle shaft interchange

I am about to grab some axle shafts to build my rear end for my dart but want to confirm that I can actually use the third member that I have. Its an early case from 1957 I believe, its a 741 case with 4.10 cone type sure grip. Would regular a body axle shafts work? I know that the cone type...

    8 3/4 swap

Im not worried about the u bolts, I know a few places that I can get them from pretty easily. The shock plates I believe I have already now that I started looking, so really once I order axle shafts I have everything that I need!

    8 3/4 swap

That's good to know for sure! I'll start ordering things this week and get the rear in the car soon.

    8 3/4 swap

That's good to hear! And the only reason I don't like it as much is because they aren't re-build able like the clutch type, it should work for me just fine though. And I must have the strongest 7 1/4 around! I can't believe it haven't blown. My 360 has about ~450hp, and I use all that when I...

    8 3/4 swap

Ahh that makes sense! I'll be sure to tell him, I just emailed him, so I'll probably order the parts pretty quick.
  18. DartVadar

    8 3/4 swap

Why does that make difference? Aren't all 30 spline axles? But I'll let him know!
  19. DartVadar

    8 3/4 swap

Thanks for the links guys! And it's a cone type sure grip unfortunately, but I will use it until I find a clutch type or something.

    8 3/4 swap

I know the small bolt pattern is different, but as far as I understand the big bolt pattern 10 inch drums are the same (I hope) I will leave the emergency cable brake so I can re-use it. I was looking into dr diff and I think I will order some axles, comes with bearings too which is nice...

    8 3/4 swap

Well I already have an 8 3/4 housing with shock plates, and because my old rear was big bolt pattern I'm pretty sure all the brake hardware swaps over. U bolts are easy to get too.
  22. DartVadar

    8 3/4 swap

I was under the impression that I could swap the backing plates and drums from my 7 1/4 over as it is big bolt pattern already.
  23. DartVadar

    8 3/4 swap

Probably should have mentioned that lol. It's for my 73 dart swinger with an 7 1/4
  24. DartVadar

    8 3/4 swap

I'm wanting to start the swap over to an 8 3/4 pretty soon and want to start getting parts together. As it sits I have a stock housing, and the third member, I am also planning on swapping all the brake hardware and what not from my old 7 1/4. The parts I know I need are SS leaf springs, axle...

    8 3/4 identification

The rear came out of a dodge A100 I believe, and too bad its the small pinion, but Im not racing or anything, so Itll last me just fine, better than the 7 1/4 I have in the car currently lol
  26. DartVadar

    8 3/4 identification

Thanks for the link, and I have to buy axle shafts anyways so I wouldnt be re-using any parts anyways, as long as it will still fit into a housing. Never knew that there were little changes like that to consider. and the date on the housing is 1957, so it would be one of the earlier ones...
  27. DartVadar

    8 3/4 identification

It has a pinion snubber already on it, and from what I can tell it looks identical to the other late 60s third members that I have.
  28. DartVadar

    8 3/4 identification

Being an older style 741 case does that change anything? Does that cause issues with axle shafts or fitting in the housings? What exactly is the difference between the old and new style cases.
  29. DartVadar

    8 3/4 identification

I didn't think the 741 cases had many gear options, this one has 4.10s in it.
  30. DartVadar

    8 3/4 identification

Wow that is pretty old, so being that it's an early one what does that mean? Can I still use it? That's really my main concern, hopefully so, I've got three of these things now lol
