I've got 4.10 gears in my dart and I love them! I really don't drive on the highway much so it doesn't bother me. I'm running a 28 inch tire, and it's about 3500 rpm on the highway, I forget the speed because I didn't change my speedometer gear yet.

I use john deer high guard in my transmission. Been there for two seasons behind a 400+ hp 360. Mainly used it because I had a whole bunch of it already lol

I just put them into my dart and absolutely love them! like stated its a bit over 3000 on the highway, but I built my motor to have fun with and that why I put those gears in. Off the line takeoff burns the tires into second and third so better tires may be a good idea.

I just completed this swap on my dart. Had the 7.25 that was a trooper. My 360 is putting out well over 400 hp and it somehow lasted for a few months. Throwing in the 8.75 was super easy, and the 4.10 gears are way more fun than the 2.76 gears that the 7.25 had.

It's a 57 case, but it's a 983 case, had this discussion earlier and I think the consensus was 741. Im not worried about the u bolts, I know a few places that I can get them from pretty easily. The shock plates I believe I have already now that I started looking, so really once I order axle shafts I have everything that I need!

Well I already have an 8 3/4 housing with shock plates, and because my old rear was big bolt pattern I'm pretty sure all the brake hardware swaps over. U bolts are easy to get too.

I was under the impression that I could swap the backing plates and drums from my 7 1/4 over as it is big bolt pattern already.

The rear came out of a dodge A100 I believe, and too bad its the small pinion, but Im not racing or anything, so Itll last me just fine, better than the 7 1/4 I have in the car currently lol

Thanks for the link, and I have to buy axle shafts anyways so I wouldnt be re-using any parts anyways, as long as it will still fit into a housing. Never knew that there were little changes like that to consider. and the date on the housing is 1957, so it would be one of the earlier ones...

It has a pinion snubber already on it, and from what I can tell it looks identical to the other late 60s third members that I have.

Being an older style 741 case does that change anything? Does that cause issues with axle shafts or fitting in the housings? What exactly is the difference between the old and new style cases.

I didn't think the 741 cases had many gear options, this one has 4.10s in it.

Wow that is pretty old, so being that it's an early one what does that mean? Can I still use it? That's really my main concern, hopefully so, I've got three of these things now lol
