    Tire size for a 1974 valiant/dart

69 dart Need ideas on Rims and sizes.

Ive got 15x6 with 215 tires up front and 15x7 with 255 tires in the rear. Fronts are billet specialties street lites and the back are some old steelies. Those rims were temporary but I kinda like the look!

    what fits

I have a set of 255/60r15 tires under my 73 dart swinger. The rear rims are a set of 15x7 steelies with a 3.5 backspacing I believe. The car has an 8 3/4 and the tires fit absolutely perfectly without any modifications to the car! There is lots of clearance everywhere so its never rubbed. The...

    tire size

Like stated the rim width is the limiting factor, Id agree with 225s. But if you got a wider rim you could fit 255s with everything stock. Thats what im running on my 73 dart.

71 Dart Rear Tire (Yes Again)

I could see it, would have to get the offset just right though.

71 Dart Rear Tire (Yes Again)

No problem. This is what those tires look like on my 73 dart. The right side does rub sometimes, but the other side has loads of room, the rear is biased towards the right side so thats why it rubs, otherwise it would fit perfectly. With a bit of fender rolling it would fit just fine as well but...

71 Dart Rear Tire (Yes Again)

I dont have any pics on me right now, I will take some and post them tomorrow though. My rims are 15x8 with 4.5 backspacing. They would fit perfectly if my rear end was centered better, only one side rubs. But I never touched the lip or anything, so with a bit of trimming/rolling they would fit...

71 Dart Rear Tire (Yes Again)

Running those on my 73 dart, very tight though, rub a little bit sometimes though. I have 15x8 rims though.

    wheel studs

I did that on my dart too, I have long wheel studs all around, like the look of them too.

    Beating the backspacing!

I have a 73 dart swinger with the stock 7 1/4 (not much longer). I have 255s in the rear, the rims are billet specialties, 15x8 and 4.5 backspacing. They are a bit tight, one side doent have as much clearance, I guess my rear isnt centered completely. You will have to measure though, I think I...

    Wheels, brakes, suspension sequence

At the very least make sure the alignment is good, if you get new tires while the alignment is off you may wear out the tires pre-maturely

    rims

I have a set of billet specialties street lites on my old dart, I really like how they look, and you dont really see them too often. They are the nicest thing on the car LOL

    74 dart tire/rim options?

Currently on my 73 dart I have 15x6 3.5 backspacing at the front with 215/60r15 tires. The rear are 15x8 4.5 backspacing with 255/60r15 tires. The rear is too high for my liking and I will lower the rear when the new rear end goes in. I highly doubt anything wider will fit on the rear, it is...

    Rims and tires

In a 69 the largest tire you will probably be able to fit is a 245/60r15 tire. On my 73 dart I managed to fit in 255/60r15s, but my year has more room.

    Will this work?

I have a set of 255/60-r15s on my 73 dart swinger, with bbp 7 1/4 and front disc brakes. My rims are 15x8 with 4.5 backspacing, they are pretty tight on the leafs but haven't rubbed after 2k miles of hard driving. The issue that I have is its very close to the fender lip on one side, and if my...

    Tires for stock wheels

Some pretty classic and inexpensive tires are some BFG radial TA tires, that's what I have on my dart. As far as size goes you can fit up to 275s in the rear I think. But judging by what your old size was I don't think you want to go that big. 215s should be good all around, give you a bit more...

    Biggest tire on 1969 dart

I fit a 255/60r15 on my 73 dart with a 15x8 4.5 backspacing rim, really right but fits. But it's hard to say if it will fit on yours, I just measured everything to make sure it would fit.

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

That's what I did, I ordered the exact lug nuts made for my wheels, that is what I should have done in the first place. I guess I didn't really have a problem after all...

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

I should have done that in the first place, I really dont know why I didnt. Well I will in the future now.

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

But while I'm making an order from summit I'm still considering new rear studs anyways (shipping for just lug nuts will be pretty expensive as I live in canada). I found one that should work, .672" knurl and 3" long. The dorman studs have a .673 diameter knurl so they should fit nice and snug...

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

I definitely have the wrong lug nuts then. Because the hole is flat, so shanked lug nuts it is. I will get some lug nuts with a 3/4 inch shank, so I should be good with that.
  22. DartVadar

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

I just took a quick measurement with the rims, on with the old studs. The rims where the lug nuts go through is ~.812" thick and the studs stick out about ~.130"-140". So If I got the studs with a .750" shank, taking into account the .100" washer and the ~.130" protrusion from the rim I should...

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

I will, and do you mean to make sure that the studs are seated all the way?
  24. DartVadar

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

So the thickness of the wheel essentially? And that's true, didn't think of that.
  25. DartVadar

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

Excellent! I've been pulling my hair out with these damn studs! So would the longer shank be better? I have 2 available, 1/2" and 3/4"
  26. DartVadar

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

Guess you beat me too it, those are exactly what I found. I'm sure they will work. But is the shank length the part that goes into the wheel and engages the threads?
  27. DartVadar

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

The ones in the picture are my old stockers, so they aren't. I wasn't aware that they would need specific lug nuts. I was looking on the billet specialties website and saw some that would probably work with the stock studs. Think these are what I need...
  28. DartVadar

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

Here are the wheels, those are with the old studs, I go new ones and I actually have less threads! Either way when the wheel is on there is maybe one thread sticking out.
  29. DartVadar

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

They are billet specialties street lites, and for whatever reason the holes for the lug nuts are a lot thicker. So I don't think special lug nuts will give me much more thread. And those may actually work.

    Wheel studs are causing problems!!!

I just got my new set of rims mounted and was all excited to get them on my car and then I figured out that the wheel studs are too short, I can only get about 2 threads in the lug nuts on, so that's far from safe. It's a 73 dart with front disc brakes. So the front studs were easy, but the...
