    440 Source lightweight crank shaft

Same as above. I bought the entire assembly from 440 Source and took it all to the machine shop as I bought the unbalanced and had them check everything and balance.

    440 Source lightweight crank shaft

I went with it in my 512 in the 72 Dart. Still breaking in the motor. So far no issues.

    Engine Question

I agree with both above. There should be a part number stamped somewhere on the piston face, side, or underside. Interweb search. Choosing another piston is bad for balance as mentioned and potentially compression. Agree to rebalance etc. I ran into the need for this same thing once on a dropped...

I’m not sure why you are going off on me. In my first statement after getting a new gasket set I said went back to the builder and made sure they followed the diagram. Not that I was arguing they were correct. It was a pain in the *** to ask for a motor to be torn down but like I said before it...

    Pistons

Went back and made sure they were installed according to the instructions from KB website. Runs like a raped ape. Ever hear of any of those other configurations under Chrysler on this chart? Finished putting the 360 in this thread together as well and ran it. Used a Holley carb on it and shot a...

Question on piston and rod balancing

You may be looking for one of us to say send it, like the Chevy guys who will go to the scrap yard and grab another core for $150 to destroy. I will caution you on this. It needs to come apart and go back for full balance. Will it run like it is, sure, but even a grocery getter will wear bearing...

Learning. Yes I would rather buy a gasket set and more break in than a whole damn motor.

I am not disagreeing one bit. When I first looked at my own picture it was hard for me to tell where the quench dome was and wasn’t. I enlarged it and could better see the slightly raised flat spot. I pulled a few diagrams from UEC and sent them off to the shop as well. In regard to the clay on...

I’m listening to you. I did not assemble the motor. Sent a message to the builder to ask if he flipped them. Not making excuses for him or the piston orientation. Will have to clay them for sure for quench dome clearance.

I was joking on flipping the heads

I just put the heads on upside down to compensate. The pic was taken with the block inverted. Trust me the valve reliefs are oriented in the correct direction. The motor ran for 15 minutes already. I think I might have already experienced a catastrophic failure at this point.

Getting the .030 over 1974 440 put together with a forged crank drilled for a 4 speed. Looking like it’s foing to be a nice set up for someone after up for sale.

Got the B&M flexplate for the 360 so it can go together with the 904 and get on the run stand and up for sale.

360 together and ready to run. Will be mated to a reverse manual 904. Will be for sale as 440 goes together as well.

Today was a clean up and conquer the pile of motors day for me. Tore down another sweet and clean 76 440. Pulled the heads on a 74 that has a set of clean .030 pistons onboard. The kid I bought it from said it was ready to go....yeah, glad I didn’t trust that. New lifters and a cam, but what...

So there I was months ago deployed with a little time on my hands. Made an offer on some pistons and rods. Sealed the deal PayPaled the cash in my standard immediate fashion and told my wife a box would arrive. Well, at the time I was ordering parts for the Demon left and right and boxes were a...

Show Your Big Block A body!

I didn't think enough of it when I set up rear suspension and selected tires. Large amount of torque. Just burns tires and wants to unhook all the way through third. Great fit. Great package. I'd do it again.

    counts customs 2015

Real builds....yes. I like to watch the shows, pick up some ideas. A custom shop close to me is getting an FBI enema for shitty business practices and some potential criminal DMV stuff. There are literally customers that drove their cars in there and now have no drivetrain. A truck from this...

You are correct Bob. I was feeling frisky and shot a pic of the stock flat tops out of one of the 360s I tore down. Was in great shape so only required a hone, rering and a balance. The heads did get a slight surface mill but I went with open chamber heads to make sure I could easily run pump...

Heads are all ready. Block was getting line honed for new crank. 360 I sent off came back, but heads were still getting worked. Was a real nice unit with stock bore. Going to get it together first while I wait on the 440.

74 Dart 318 to 383 Engine Swap Help

Do yourself a favor and stick with the 318. Hop it up a bit. Parts are dirt cheap and everywhere. Thennnnnn, while you drive it around read all you can about big block swaps, collect your parts, and slowly budget your motor, trans, rear, suspension and brakes. Yes it will fit, yes, it goes right in.
