Cheap alternative to pricey flat tappet oil in street cars...

Brad Penn Grade 1 is blended crude and synthetic. True synthetic oil (unlike Mobil 1 is now) is awesome, if you've got the cash. Motul, Redline, Royal Purple, etc. I think everyone is using Ester base stock as an additive in what is classified in most common "synthetic" oil, instead of using it...

Nice. I was doing my math with zero zinc levels. I know that Brad Penn's conventional has none. I'm only going to assume, because I haven't asked any other reps, but I believe that this move made by them was nothing shy of an industry standard. Their Penn Grade 1 is the stuff with 1100ppm...

Cheap alternative to pricey flat tappet oil in street cars...

Good to know on fuel inj. engines. I doubt I hurt anything. I know that the Scamp's cam bit the dust because of it's age and carb + no phosphorus. The only thing that made me nervous is that in a lot of the jeep forums, lifter wear and ticking lifters are becoming a more common problem with the...

Amsoil is good stuff. So is Redline and Brad Penn, if you don't mind the price. I'd love to rollerize my Jeep, but again, I can't seem to find a roller cam and lifter set for a 4.0 anywhere and I'm beginning to wonder if there is no room for a lifter link in the engine. I think Brad Penn's...

Not too bad, for what it does. I think the cost of the Lucas break in is $4 per change, or so, a little more if you've got more than 5qts. I'd be interested to see what the lab numbers are of that stuff. After doing the math, if you buy the 8oz bottle that treats 32 quarts, you would get 6...

    340 Direct Connection cylinder heads

The only reason I'd consider that would be on a boosted powerplant, where bigger ports would be ideal and venturi was not a concern.

After discovering that my daily driver, '92 Cherokee ran the AMC flat tappet hydraulic cam/ lifter arrangement, the first thing that I did was search for a roller set, because I am not thrilled with the price and availability of oils containing the correct amount of zinc, phosphorus, other...

Brad Penn oil, Anyone useing it

You won't see bearing shavings. You'll see metallics all over the cam galley, up high, if you pull an intake on a flat tappet engine, running conventional oils that have no phosphorus. It has little or nothing to do with zinc. Flat tappet engines need phosphorus. When buy a flat tappet cam...

    Beginners,doing multiple modifications at once......

It's just a carb swap, Tim. I swear to god... Truth in one day/ step at a time in all of it. Even if you're like me and tear it down to the shell and put it back together. Jumping from building the short block one day and coming back into the garage the next day to restore the upper control...

    part throttle bog/hessitation/backfire

165 is pretty cold on a T-stat in any climate where the car sees 40 degrees or lower. You might try a 180 or even a 195. I think you've got fuel falling out.
