    stock or hv oil pump

...stupid question: with a HV oil pump and stock pan, is there any concern of running the pan dry? I want to eliminate my deep sump 6-7 qt pan and put a stock one on for clearance issues. This deep sump sucks being this low....lol Thanks in advance.

Valve Spring - Broken problem found

I finally had time today to go wrench on the 340 head. I didn't pull the head and used the old rope in cylinder trick to hold the valves up, so I could change out the springs in cylinder #2. Swapped out both springs for that cylinder with the Melling vs-1120 springs. The rocker and valve tip...

Valve Spring - Broken problem found

I was agreeing with you about the springs being junk....it was maybe my wording that seemed like the heads were junk as well......no problem, it's all good. I honestly appreciate the candid feedback.....my feelings rarely get hurt, no worries there....lol....no need to beat around the...

Valve Spring - Broken problem found

Ya, I am far from an engine master....I have done motor swaps/replaced heads/timing chains/hedders, etc. I know my way around an engine and not afraid to get at it with older cars that are simple......when i seen that spring, I thought it was odd, since it does a simple task and shouldn't break...

Valve Spring - Broken problem found

Going to have to pull the head off and see what kind of Tomfoolery and damage has happened. No way of testing cylinder sealing, but I think that is erroneous, since the heads got to come off. I am about 3 hrs strait north from Swift..........why, do you have some nice rebuilt heads for sale for...

Valve Spring - Broken problem found

Had time today to dig into the non-combustion issue on cylinder #2.....did a compression test, came up 0, as I thought it may have.....but hoping it wasn't a dead hole (ring problem). Took valve cover off and this is what I found....just laying there, and then the spring on the forward-most...

Got my complete MSD ignition setup today

Your coil is an E-coil (Epoxy filled) and can be mounted any way you desire. A "normal" coil or canister coil is filled with oil for cooling the coil, so they can start to leak the oil out, if defective or seal fails and will eventually burn out/fail, if they are mounted sideways. I know most...

Smallblock efficiency or How to have your cake and eat it too

miles are miles....but stixx is correct.......I use the 4.546 imperial gallon calculation when converting my litres to figure out MPG.

Smallblock efficiency or How to have your cake and eat it too

I think a nice combination of vac advance for efficiency, HEI module for a hot reliable spark, good air flow (2 1/2" exhaust) and the TQuad lead to the good mileage.....but was no dog either when you wanted to give 'er.......lol.....or just lucky tuning.

Smallblock efficiency or How to have your cake and eat it too

When I had my '73 Duster 340/4 speed ('71 clone) I ran: -Mopar replacement electronic dist from NAPA -ThermoQuad 750 -GM HEI module conversion eliminating mopar ECM & ballast -NGK plugs gapped to about .40-.42....initial timing at about 16 BTDC w vacuum advance. I tested the fuel mileage a few...
