    360 vs 383

I think there are two scenarios for this topic. One is this is a swap with what can be found as an ok motor that should run and the other is a full build before the swap. In the case of dragging home whatever can be found, I think the stock comparisons from years ago are somewhat helpful...

    360 vs 383

To be clear, I'm not trying to change your mind or anything. Just didn't want anyone thinking that all 383's had real compression. I agree, to each their own. Myself, I've always wanted a BB Duster, just love the idea of it. I did have a Duster I was going to swap, even bought a '75 400 for...

    360 vs 383

Sure, but now the point about one having higher compression is mute since both would get whatever compression the builder decided.

    360 vs 383

Not all 383's had high compression, the 383 2bbl had pretty much the same compression ratio as the 360. Agreed that the 383 had a high compression option that the 360 never did, but I would bet most 383's someone drags home to drop in their A-Body are going to be of the 2bbl persuasion. And...

    360 vs 383

I got it. The '71 340 was the last year for the 2.02 heads, right? I bet when the 340 and 360 moved to a 1.88 head they picked up power. Has to be the difference.

    360 vs 383

For me, I think the decision between a 360 or 383 is too project dependent to say which way I would go in a theoretical thread like this. I think the 383 has some real advantages over a 360. I think the available aftermarket BB heads are better and I like the shorter stroke and bigger bore...

    360 vs 383

There is a European team that campaigned a V8 Viper by disabling 2 cylinders in the V10 block, and they did pretty good. The Vipers were dominate so the other manufacturers got the rules adjusted to slow them down and the team found loopholes to keep competing, and winning, with the Vipers...

    360 vs 383

    It's kind of interesting (to me) to compare the rated rpm's for these motors. __________HP________TQ '71 340 - 235@5000 - 310@3200 '73 340 - 240@4800 - 295@3600 '74 260 - 245@4800 - 320@3600 Doesn't make sense to me why the '73 340 with lower compression and a log manifold on the right was...

I wish they had done a V8 Viper based motor. Bet it would have competed with the LS.

This page says the '71 340 (Note - not detuned) net rating was 235/310. https://www.hamtramck-historical.com/images/dealerships/DealershipDataBook/1971/71_Valiant_Duster_14.jpg '74 360 factory rating (still net) was 245/320. '73 340 was 240/295. Still factory ratings so they could have...

    360 vs 383

I think a 5.9 should be a part of the discussion, it's still a 360 and bolts into the same spot. Most A-Bodies didn't come with a 360 or a 383, and if someone were to be looking at swapping a 360 in, the Magnum is just as much an option as a 383 out of a Roadrunner for the BB swap. If not more...

383 4bbl '71 Cuda would be the same as the '71 Challenger posted earlier. Looks like the only 4bbl 383 available in '71 was a 300hp detuned, 8.5:1 motor, probably with the 2bbl cam. Never noticed it before, but looks like the '71 dealer info shows both rating systems, and says 250 hp and 325...

Struggles to find an earlier 383 in Pure Stock Drags results. Finally found a '69 Cuda 383/4M/3.55 with a listed weight of 3660. Time shown was [email protected].

    360 vs 383

    For comparison sake, the '70 AMA specs for a Barracuda/Cuda list 3 separate 383's: 2bbl - 290@4200 4bbl - 330@5000 4bbl HP - 335@5200 The 2bbl and 4bbl both show the same cam (256/260), but the 4bbl HP shows a 268/284 cam.

'74 factory cam was the 340 cam (268/276), and rated HP peak was at 4800 rpm. At least per the AMA spec on the Hamtramck historical site. The 1970 Hamtramck Registry - 1974 AMA Specifications - Barracuda

    360 vs 383

Won't the 383 always weight more than the 360 if they both have the same advantages of aluminum parts? The 383 has wider bore centers, taller deck and skirted block. Just more cast iron. Not saying it makes a huge difference, but it sure seems like the 383 will always weight more.

    Modern day Challenger

I guess it depends on the end result you want. If driving an old car takes you back and gives you a certain feeling, a modern Challenger isn't going to fit and will probably feel like it has no soul to you. And really, the only "soul" a car will ever have is the one you give it. Can't argue...

Making a car difficult to steal

Part of the problem there is it only takes $150 of stuff to add a new key to the car. Pretty easy. The factory started locking a module so keys couldn’t be added, but that means you have to replace the module if you need to add keys. The other issue is the electronic transmissions meant...

    Modern day Challenger

It’s funny, I test drove an SP 6M and struggled to find it significantly better. It felt faster on the top end for sure, but around town it just didn’t make me giddy enough to hand over the keys to my R/T. And I didn’t test the brakes enough to form an opinion on those, but I did have the...

    Modern day Challenger

It should probably be pointed out that the 8HP wasn’t available in the Challenger with a V8 until 2015. Much better trans than the 5A from previous generations. Not saying the 2014 and older auto cars weren’t fun, but the 8A was a pretty good leap forward.

    Modern day Challenger

I had a 2015 R/T 6M and loved it but sold it for a couple of reasons. Concerned about a car payment was the biggest, and the idea that I wanted a Scat Pack someday. I should have kept it. I ended up driving it about 8 hours to sell it, and drove a rental 4 cylinder Mustang back. Back to...

    Air Tracker

Problem with an AirTag is the apps that people use to check for them. Because AirTags are used to maliciously track people and cars, there are apps to see if someone dropped one in your trunk at a show or stuck it to your car while you are away so they can "follow" you home and steal your car...

Anyone here own an ‘08-10 Mopar car and willing to help me with some config files?

Got the ABS read! Looks like the circuit board is powered through the main power wires and the key-on wire is only a signal wire. Hooked power to to the smaller of the 2 and was able to connect. But first I pulled the motor and valve assembly so it didn't pull too much power for my benchtop...

Well, been an adventure so far and far from over. I was finally able to get connected to a JY TIPM I bought as well as a PCM, but no luck so far with the ABS. I suspect that because I am not hooking the 2 large power wires up, the circuit board isn't actually powered. There is a key-on wire...
