    Front plate/ water pump question

Machine the cover down completely flat, then use a solid spacer to make up the difference, then use a Meziere or equivalent electric pump. No cavitation issues at all.

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

I had a situation like that too many years ago. Had a local machinist fly cut valve reliefs and we miscommunicated and ruined the pistons. Ended up in court. I was out the cost of the pistons plus the machine work. He felt he should get paid for the work he did even though it ruined the pistons...

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

Or the squeaky wheel gets the grease lol. Yes this does not involve me nor anyone on this forum which as was said earlier, this kind of thing should not be on the internet. It is between a business and a customer. That said I always try to help. The op brought this on the forum and many have...

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

I think any reasonable judge will give a business owner the benefit of a doubt to fix an honest mistake. Like I said the machined Passage might have just been a broken drill bit. Even a well trained dog is allowed one bite. Why should a business owner have to pay for parts and labour that he...

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

What parts were installed incorrectly. Cope says you got a wrong converter and a missing machined passage in the valve body. I think more or less Cope apologized to you in the video. He said he feels bad about the whole thing. Says he understands how you feel. I have followed this thread from...

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

No disputes there. I think your problem will be that he offered to fix for free. If he can prove that, I think you’re outta luck. If you gave the trans back to him to fix and he messed up a 2nd time, then I think it would be justified to go to another builder. But I think any reasonable judge...

When did you discovery the leak from the bolts, after Copes build or after your local builders build.

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

The problem with these kind of threads is they don’t mention how many satisfied customers there are. We only hear about the few who had a problem and decide to go on the internet and trash the business and not always tell all the facts. Cope has publicly told his side of the story and even...

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

If your local builder caught those stripped threads, regardless of who or how it happened, and didn’t bother to fix it, and while you and your kids are in the car and the motor and trans fell out from the car and caused an accident, who would you sue, John Cope? Your local builder was the last...

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

I don’t believe anyone meant to strip those threads. As I said earlier many builders probably assume yea a 3/8-7/16 bolt ok to torque to standard 45-50 ft lbs. but not in this location.

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

Did your local builder call cope to tell him that his valve body was missing a drilled passage. I doubt it. He probably called Cope to tell him that the pressure were way over the top and did not know why. I sure Cope trusted your local builder to trust that he knew how to read a pressure gauge...

I can appreciate that your local guy was courteous to you. But he had to contact John himself because he could not fix it either. So in a way John still helped fix your trans. I work for a major auto manufacturer building oem engines. You think we never make a bad one. It happens. And when the...

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

I’ve watched the video and I’ve tried to help and advise you. I feel very bad for your terrible experience. Apparently John does too. But I personally think some of this is on you. Your local rebuilder does not manufacture valve bodies. He does not convert lockup trannies to non lockup. I said...

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

How do we know that it wasn’t his new local builder who stripped the threads. Maybe he had his 200ft lb impact on tighten instead of loosen. Too many hands in there now to keep blaming Cope. The new builder also rebuilt it after all and it still has issues. He says the pressures are not right...

Anyone local to me capable of correcting errors on a 904 race build

Did you tell Cope the bolts were stripped, or did you just tell him they are leaking. I have hopped up a leak from the lever pin That had bad seals in it to get buy, but stripped bolts is very different.

You better make sure those tailshaft bolts are not stripped. We are dealing with aluminum here, which is soft. Many rebuilders hit those bolts with a impact gun, but I am pretty sure those bolts in the shop manual are very low torque. Like 15ft lbs. The entire weight of your motor and trans is...

No question someone dropped the ball somewhere. Any luck with the trans brake ?

I don’t understand your post. The trans uses a lockup input shaft that requires that unique spline count. According to Copes receipt he intended to use a lockup input shaft. But his Bill also says I assume that ptc makes a non lockup converter that uses the lockup spline count, but just doesn’t...

I bet John never built that trans. Probably an employee. That’s not an excuse though. But I don’t believe John would make those assembly mistakes.

Not anymore. John is probably one of the leaders in Mopar valve bodies now. He has all his own designs now. Check out his videos to see what he has developed especially for the diesel market.

You didn’t by chance have a floorjack under the pan at some point did you? The solenoid on Copes brake is just inside of the oil pan. It would be very easy to damage it with a floor jack. It depends how deep your pan is, but some pans just clear his solenoid. Something to check.

If I could add a little bit to this post, you can also buy 904 pump gears from A&A trans that have oversized drive lugs. These gears also eliminate one of the large chamfers that are normally on both sides of the gear. Eliminating the chamfer provides more surface contact to the converter hub to...

    Front end setup (Drag Racing)

The Caltrac front shocks are way looser than most other shocks. They claim they are a true 90/10. I believe it. They pull apart way easier than my 90/10 CE.

I agree with what you have said, however a business person who was short with me on the phone, won’t deter me from persuing $$4,500. And there is no way I would then spend another several thousand dollars somewhere else to get the problem resolved. That is on the Op.

Looking at your bill I can see that John does indeed know what he is doing. Because I have done this conversion from a lockup to a none lockup, I know what is involved. But my conversion was done years ago based on what was available in aftermarket converters. John appears to be very up to date...
