    Bright Dip vs. Anodize

King of trim straighten and bright dipped my, (19) dissembled pieces of grill/headlight surround parts, and chromed head light surrounds...(left ******** gone now), but they did a good job. $1300 sounds way too much though! I wasn't happy with the polished aluminum look(first attempt), but...

Yes...decided on Dr. Diff front and rear disc kits, w/ lg bolt pattern, 12" front, 11" rear. going a bit over board with the suspension, brake and steering upgrade, but she's going to handle, steer, and stop like a new car. My dilemma now are wheels...like to go with 17" x 8" year one...

'68 Barracuda inner grill nut "Fun Fact"

Hmmm...I still have a bunch of nuts,(not on the grill, ;))... I thought they would strip my studs...or worse...strip the pot-metal inner grill threads,(or brake off), bees wax might help them slip on, and do what they are intended to do. I'll have to try a few. Thanks for the replies!

'68 Barracuda inner grill nut "Fun Fact"

might be too late for me, I heated and dipped all in ice water to shock loose... at least that's what i read I should do to loosen rusted on nuts, etc. Worked on the broken grill surround stud & nuts well also. not sure...i stayed away from metal type polish...my thought and others on the web, that "plastic chrome" should be treated like paint. I'm not sure of the factory process It may very well be real chrome, but i didn't take the chance. Happy with how the clay bar worked.

'68 Barracuda inner grill nut "Fun Fact"

Actually, not so fun, so thought i'd share what i discovered yesterday & today... that dimple is/was Plymouth's "lock-tight" I assume they assembled the inner plastic grill to the chrome inner grills "studs" then had some sort of press that smacked/squished the nut (opposite sides)on to the...

'68 B'cuda inner (plastic) grill detailing tips?

Thanks Jet I ended up using Mothers detailing spray and a clay bar to get the shine back on the "chrome" tips. I had to use acetone to remove the white paint over spray, but that took some of the black paint off also. I may have to try to find the duplicolor flat black vinyl die to touch up...

Hay Jeff, I just found this stuff on the web that you might be able to use yourself to restore the "chrome" tips on your spring special. Called "Bare Metal" not sure of how it will handle exterior conditions, but it's real metal, wax or other car finish protectant might help. I watched some...

Ment to ask you too, who you bought your gauge bezels from? Funny you mentioned "NOT" to use windex...exactly what i used in my teens/early twenty's to clean them...now all the chrome is flaking off, ha ha. I was going to have it re finished, but it's around $450-500, re-pops are around $650 i...

'68 B'cuda inner (plastic) grill detailing tips?

I'll send a pic. in a few days of what i used, they press into original holes, no mods/JB weld required, very similar to the original studs. just have to carefully cut the broken stud as close to the base as possible, then grind them a bit, (carefully so you don't enlarge the holes), then use a...

Yes, definitely two different part #'s and finishes, pretty rare i think, don't want to screw them up! I've had them for, (embarrassed to say how many ) years, stored and wrapped in bubble wrap. recent recovery from surgery, & retirement has given me time to (try), get the poor girl back together.

Thanks! I give it a test shot on the inside, I don't want to remove the original paint and have to re-paint if at all possible. Just clean the original finish. The over-spray may be tough to get of with out damage though. Any other suggestions are appreciated too! Thanks

re-reading this, Jeff think you are talking about "re-chrome" the plastic grill, (I must be tired), hard to find anyone that does that, Try Lawson's, they might? i was looking into who refinishes dash bezels,(plastic re-chrome too), they do dash bezels, so might be worth a shot, i think they're...
