    Vin pad location 68 340

I worked at a restoration shop and the Secretary of State Police came in to do an audit and found several dashes off cars to be done. They were going to confiscate one out of a 68 because they could not find the VIN numbers on the body that was sitting next to it. I had to explain to them about...

Steve Dulcich on building a budget 318

318 because lots more were built and most have forged cranks. 360 heads because they were used on 340's too with 1.88 valves, so also plentiful too and you don't have to worry about valve shrouding with core shift and 2.02 valves. Dulcich knows way more about building these things cheaply and...

340 complete cores are $1200-2500, 340 manifolds are selling for $600-850, 8-3/4 pigs really depend on case number, sure grip, and ratio, anywhere from $50-750. Fresh 360 short block $1000-2000. 4-speed trans depends on year and what they look like inside, $100-1000. Valiant could be $1000-5000...

Particular situation on a new rebuilt block need help!

69 and 71-2 used a forged crank, 73 used a cast crank. 69 and earlier use the cast iron water pump, 70-up used the aluminum water pump. You need the pulley's from a 70-71 and early 72 forged crank to work. The 69 pulleys will not work.

What is this for and is it needed?

Yes you need it, it directs hydraulic fluid to the front and rear brakes! The wire is for the dash brake idiot light that tells you the brakes may not work the next time you use them. Anytime the brake system has an issue, nice to have!

    340 blocks and dates

I had a few 6-27-67 casting 340 blocks, so I believe they cast a bunch that week in 1967. The other two do look to be replacement blocks, so you have three blocks at the beginning and end of 340 production, pretty cool!

67 Small Block alternator bracket and Pulleys on a 73 small block
