    8.8 explorer rear swap

I used similar perches. I don't think they take the place of a snubber. I plan to use a snubber.

    8.8 explorer rear swap

There's description of doing a shortened version in my home thread if that interests you. Starts on page 6. Be careful of bent differentials. Many have been in rollovers. I would not have detected it without the alignment tool I made.

Why is my top speed 70 mph?

How to find your differential gear ratio without stamps, tags, or tear down - YouTube Easy way to determine gear ratio. I also doubt that's the problem but its nice to know regardless. He did say "the carb is open". That should be clarified, meaning, make sure the throttle is opening ALL the...

4 speed or 4 speed OD?

Interesting info Rani. I may well find the OD is not the ticket, but I have it, and have already built up my 4.10 8.8 rear so I'm going to try it out. I'll likely make a trip to the track but just out of curiosity not to compete. There's a chance it might make for a fun ride that lights em up...

4 speed or 4 speed OD?

I know the OD is not as strong, but I'm planning to try one behind my 5.9 that will be built to around 400 hp. I'm going with 4.10s. Not such an issue with 3.23s. What will your tire diameter be?

    Narrowing 8 3/4 details

The tube ends were chamfered and butt welded with a mig. The tube to housing joint was tig welded to eliminate the known possibility to spin the tube in the housing (8.8 diff).

    Narrowing 8 3/4 details

Did my own with some machined aluminum bushings and pipe. I used torch heat and force from my front end loader to straighten it. (Oh the horror!) I kept the bushing tolerances tight and at the end the pipe spun with no resistance. Now tell me that it is not straight. :)

Slant six 4 speed to small block 360

I thought that trucks use a 143 tooth flywheel (and different bellhousing). Lots of info here: http://www.slantsix.org/articles/4-speeds/ODA833fourspeed1.htm and here: http://www.brewersperformance.com/history.htm

    Pinion angle relative to frame?

Yes I thought about that after. 5 up from level perches does not mean 5 up from level ground. In their installed position, the perches must have some downward angle.

    Pinion angle relative to frame?

I'm certainly no expert, but in my non expert opinion, if the rockers are not straight, I'm not ready to worry about pinion angle :D I'm puzzled too. In fact the 5 degree up thing is baffling to me. I do appreciate the help and concern. The reality is I'm just going to tack it, and get...

    Pinion angle relative to frame?

    Pinion angle relative to frame?

That may work out fine, but I want to be more sure of what I'm doing. I can set the car close to its final stance. The engine/trans will be in factory position. If I know the typical factory angle between the engine/trans and rocker I believe I can indeed use that to get the pinion close...

    Pinion angle relative to frame?

I'm about to weld perches onto my 8.8 diff. This is being done before the engine and tranny are in and I want to get my pinion angle roughly set. I've read a bunch of threads and articles. I've not found what I need to do it. What I need to know is the typical angle between the engine/tranny...

explorer 8.8 in an a-body: experience needed

I'm wondering if there's folks wearing out their brakes quickly due to having residual valves in their systems. Maybe its not being noticed due to most cars not seeing a lot of miles. There is the concern of them heating up during highway driving as well.

explorer 8.8 in an a-body: experience needed

Based on the article above, those of us putting an 8.8 with discs where there were drums should be making sure we have no residual valve. I've read everything I've seen on the 8.8 swap here and not seen this discussed.
