Cool. I've thought of doing that.

Pistol out and round ball in?

Maybe if it were locate a few inches back. My A833OD will be in a custom location. Not sure. Not cheap at $200. I'd do it Rusty's way.

Pistol out and round ball in?

 Why remove the pistol grip? If they weren't so spendy I think I'd try one in my Dart.

    manual trans with 5.9 magnum

The flywheel for a 5.9 will cost around $350 IIRC. I’m doing this with an A833 OD. Bought the flywheel then decided to make it a stroker (internally balanced) so will be selling the flywheel.

Rolling burnout in 1st gear No clutch dump to break things. You could be right Del, and maybe I won’t like it. If so I’ll change it. Not sure why you think 1st is weak.

4:10 diff; 27" tire; 10:1 CR. Fuel economy is not the main goal, just don't want annoying high revs on the highway. You must be a math wiz with numbers flying around your head all the time. :)

I too did not initially understand that you were referencing a non OD A833. My A-833 book shows 63 - 64 had the low 3.09 gear like the OD version and a smaller gap going to 2nd. I'm building a 408 but I don't plan to be power shifting and plan to rev limit around 5800. I think I'll have the...

I plan to use OD very gently. I've got Caddy CTS buckets going in, possibly will also use the CTS console, depending on how positioning the shifter works out so I think you're right, I like having flexibility. I have a 4 speed floor pan in another car, but may just fab a floor over the cutout if...

The original post was from 2015, revived now as I'm planning mine. I get your perspective, especially since you likely have a hundred of them in storage :) If I could easily locate one for low cost I would do so, and I may call around before diving into this one. We are not in a large urban area...

And of course Hurst was involved, supplying the shifters. Seems like that would have been an easy part for the factory to handle.

wll an 80s truck 4 spd tranny fit an a body?

Thanks!. The photos and layout are nice. I think I'll add an arm to one of the front mount holes to make it stronger like Dave describes.

wll an 80s truck 4 spd tranny fit an a body?

My thanks to 72bluNblu for this 10 year old post. I found this after Brewers informed me that my truck tranny would not work in an A body so I sent them a copy :) I already knew it existed somewhere and was glad to find it here.

I've kept an eye out for posts about experiences with the OD tranny so I know it has limitations. Some have done fine with it. Not planning to race.

    4 speed ka-booom !

Great thread, in large part due to your contributions. The OP is doing a good job here as well. I'm learning from it so thanks. I totally get the 4 speed fun factor. Planning to try out an OD unit. Might blow it up but so be it.:burnout::burnout:

    833 4 speed truck trans

I don't have details handy but I know its not so hard to do.Plans for a shifter adapter plate are out there. Not sure if they are all OD but they are often used for that benefit. The OD version is somewhat weaker due to how power is routed but likely only a factor if planning high HP and running...

Could you explain a little more? What makes it better? Lighter clutch pedal force with longer levers and c/w? Do you have a link to this clutch? I've been thinking I'd buy the centerforce since lots of members like it but would like to see a less spendy option.

Flywheel Help Needed....will a 143 Tooth Aluminum Flywheel work on my 340?

Looks like that aluminum one is drilled for external balance, the other is not, unless it's on the other side.

    Another flywheel question.

I had been under the impression that 130 tooth balance drilled flywheels were available but apparently not. My apologies. There is this potential option, with weight for around $135 but there seems to be some uncertainty regarding the "correct" weight. I think it could be resolved with the...

    Another flywheel question.

I'm fairly sure you can buy a new flywheel for that price. There should also be lots of junkyard 360 flywheels that can be resurfaced. Where the drilling becomes economical is for the 5.9 Magnum. The balance is different than an LA 360 and the only available flywheels are aftermarket and $$$.

    magnum motor flywheel

http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=178065 The answer is in the thread. The moparts thread where the balance info comes from has been updated with info that puts the balance weight in question. It's yet to be resolved. Of course this only matters if you want to go the DIY route
