    Clogged brake lines?

Disconnect the rear flex line from the hard line going forward and check for fluid there. No fluid? move up to the next line fitting and repeat. Could be the distribution block as already mentioned.

10x1-3/4 are original A body brake dimensions. Just look up 71 duster with 10" rear drums for parts.

Differences in 7.25 and 8.75 brake lines

I'd think there'd only be a difference in the length of the 2 differential hard lines. They may be compatible, don't know for sure. Fittings should be.

    76 Aspen Disc brakes

M bodies got lock ups for sure...and they are easy to spot. but I never saw one in an F body (had about 40 of them) All F's and M's were big bolt. best part of that rear is the brakes.

    Disc Fitment help '73 Duster

If you have a 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern its not original to a 4 wheel drum 73. Check for wheel adapters, or you may already have discs. Either way you have to know what you have before you order parts for it. Different spindles, different kits. For your use factory parts are a good option imo.

Yes...its a plastic as opposed to metal piston.

about $20/side new/reman...not even a question. avoid the phenolic piston units.

Quick simple questions-please and thank you

your F's have very good power discs. better than the earlier 4 piston calipers imo. C wont fit A or F bodies AFIK. F/M/J fits A. You could find a larger set of rotors from the later M's and J's for your F and A. no graceful drivers, eh?

I'd bet it was the std bell drum. Theres 2-1/4" of useable brake surface on it. Different shoes, and maybe wheel cyl.

    Brake hoses?

Quality brake hoses are inexpensive. I've always got a couple sets squirreled away. Really, the entire brake system is pretty inexpensive...especially considering what you get for your $'s.

    Brake hoses?

I've used the F/M body hoses. Just remove the bracket from the hose. 1980 the fixed point for the flex hose move from in front of the axle to behind on the F and M body frame rail. 80 up calipers have a better bleeder location. Avoid the phenolic piston calipers.

    7 1/4 To 8 3/4 drum brakes

Stuff doesnt rust so much here so parts like levers and struts dont go bad. Springs if they look good, but cups springs pins new if available.

    Brake shoe size

look at the backside pics...the wheel cyls. physically wont interchange. As I see it you have to match the drum to the shoe width to the backing plate offset.

    Brake shoe size

glad I didnt save it all for no reason:rofl: well, I did stack them neatly on a shelf out back a couple decades ago as they were stripped... then promptly lost them as things collected in front of them...:D
  23. Jimacuda

    Brake shoe size

2-1/4" is approx. 1.45" 2-1/2" is approx. 1.57" So it looks like backing plate offset dictates shoe width. I suppose you cant really go outboard much with the increase in shoe width without effectively hitting the back side of the wheel...DOH! A few other differences as well...

    Brake shoe size

I'd think it could make a difference. The actuator rod will be at a slight angle coming off the hyd. cyl. piston. Changes the force angles a bit, might make the piston try to **** in the bore. Then again there may be enough "play" in the system to take up the 1/8"...

    Brake shoe size

73 up left, 72 back right shoes look very similar except 73 up shown is 10x2-1/2 and 72 back is 10x 2-1/4. Not sure what all has to change for a wider shoe, other than the obvious, drum, shoes... Wouldnt the plate have to change as well to keep the geometry of the cyl. correct? Or is there a...

    7 1/4 To 8 3/4 drum brakes

For A body 10" small bolt pattern rear brakes the parts interchange between the 7.25 rear and 8.75 rear brakes is everything EXCEPT the backing plates.
