    Testiment to the 904 Trans

Do a fluid change and cross your fingers . Anyone I know that did a fluid change on a trans that had had the fluid changed in over 100k miles or decades was doing a full trans rebuild soon after .

    904 2-3 Shift Flare

Glad it worked , changing the fluid was not going to fix this problem. The front clutch spring kit is more than likely what was the root cause because you say you added the TF-2 hoping to cure it which also wouldn't do it . Did you return the adjustments of the pressure regulator and the band...

    904 2-3 Shift Flare

I was just going to ask this question , also what spring setup do you have in the front drum. A 727 I worked on had a 2-3 flare. It has the mr.randyj billet front servo and a 3.8 apply lever in it with the billet band strut . Combination of too many springs in the front drum and both springs...

    Ford 8.8 Swap

The 8.8 is not a bolt in so the person installing it will want to set pinion angle before welding the perches to the axle tube.

    Damaged trans?

What type of valve body in the trans ? If it's a manual VB does it have low band apply ?

    904 2-3 Shift Flare

Did you install the orifice in the trans case ? If so remove it , the front band is releasing faster than the front clutch can apply.

Looking for some repair Ideas - 727 in Big Block Dart (383)

A friend broke the front splines off the mainshaft in a 727. As said you aren't going to fix it on your back in the driveway . Call the hook and take it back to the guy that rebuilt it .

    Rear end question

I'm pretty sure the only difference in the backing plates is the 7.25 is missing the bottom center bolt hole , other wise it should be the same .

    overdrive tranny problems

The cluster gear turns all the time but the shaft it rides on does not turn unless the woodruff key at the back breaks off or is not installed. The front hole for the shaft can wallow over time if the trans is beat on , that is what usually happens. As far as the OP's trans being stuck in gear...

    Is this possible?

no you can't do it , the spot on the mainshaft for 3rd gear in the ball and trunnion trans is bigger than the gear that needs to go on it from the OD trans, you'll have to change the driveshaft if you want to use the OD trans .

    727 Rebuild Advice

5000 rpm in first gear with the sprag rolled over will spin the drum over 12000 rpm , can you say KABOOM ! Unless you have a full manual valve body starting out in second gear with an automatic shift valve body, even with a shift kit in it, still starts the trans in first WITHOUT the low band...

Mcleods 5 speed at SEMA and info update

It's not , as said it just looks similar to the 833 , Jamie did that so it would bolt in where an 833 would, he started with a fresh sheet of paper , this trans will be stronger than an 833.

Mcleods 5 speed at SEMA and info update

That's good to know , what about the proshift ? It's been so long since I read anything on them. If I were building something I didn't care if I cut it up I would look at it .

Mcleods 5 speed at SEMA and info update

What makes you think the Passon trans is going to be weaker? None are in the hands of anyone that is not a test mule, neither it or the McLeod . Looking at that trans and the shift rail exposed it looks like it will hit the Torsion bar crossmember , never mind the shifter mount is in the middle...

    4 speed trans swap question?

What is the trans out of and what year is the trans ? 18 spline or 23 spline ? the bearing retainer may be the wrong size depending on the year of the trans but that can be worked around . Does his bellhousing have both 3 and 4 speed patterns ? If not he is going to need to get another...

anybody know how to i.d. a833?

Those casting numbers are pretty much useless in trying to identify an 833. Is the shift mount pad in front of or behind the trans mount pad ? One shift mount pads or 2 ? Behind and one is A body , 2 is B/E , in front of and 1 is 69 down B body. To figure out the year look on the pass side of...

Mcleods 5 speed at SEMA and info update

they aren't going to sell many of them no matter what the price , mopar guys have a problem with doing any cutting to their cars because it will affect the VALUE and that there is a value killer. also if I remember right that is a pro shift with straight cut gears, if so not street friendly ...

Why would the previous owner do this?

Explain please ??? :happy1: The smallest diameter of a 741 is EXACTLY the same as a 742 ... the STRONGEST , and a 489 , technically the weakest with the POS crush sleeve still installed ... the section of the pinion shaft were the outer pinion bearing rides and I have yet to see ANYONE say...

    Slipping trans?

Which is the REAR drum of the 2 drums ,and trans will have to come out to fix it. As someone said check the fluid first , then make sure the throttle valve linkage , (KICKDOWN) is set up properly.

    904 to 727 conversion

Calling it a dog is a stretch and you can blow up a 904 pretty easy behind a 318 with a 2bbl , did it myself at 17yrs old . But I agree I would just fix the 904 , one thing that one has to do to switch to a 727 in an A body with column shift is to fab up the shift linkage , column shift 727's...

2002 mustang GT rear end in duster???

But they aren't any stronger than an 8.75 , they use a crush sleeve stock , c clips and the axles break with the right amount of horsepower and slicks, A friend has blown up 2 behind 300ish HP 302's with a 5 speed and slicks . Dr. Diff sells a powdercoated A body ready to bolt in housing for...

What caused my clutch to break?

Did you push in the clutch when you slammed on the brakes or did you just let the engine stall ? If you didn't push in the clutch that is why this happened , the clutch was on it's way out , you just made it happen faster .

    Can it be done?

Am I sure ? ABSOLUTELY . There is a picture of the 2 trans side by side on that page , look at them , no way you can do it without sawing the 2 cases apart and welding the back of the 518 to the front of the 727 and there ius absoultely no reason to do that , with a smallblock , because you end...

    Can it be done?

What he said , you can't turn a 727 or a 904 into an OD trans unless you bolt a gearvendors to the back of it , that link is as he said , how to put a 500 or 518 into the early mopars , CUTTING is required .

    8 3/4 vs 9 3/4

As long as you don't need a pinion snubber using a truck rear is not a problem . what you'll need to get is brakes , you can use them off your 8 3/4 unless they are the SBP stuff, axles and more than likely spiders as I don't think the sure grip in that rear is the same spline count , usually...

    Building your own kickdown linkage?

but he asked for a BLUEPRINT , photos don't give you measurements which are somewhat critical . also the LOKAR is not the setup to use , it's a generic setupo and does not have the proper ratio for movement of the throttle to movement of the THROTTLE VALVE LEVER on the trans , the bouchilon...
