    Which bellhousing?

Yes you can turn down the Od of the OD retainer to 4.80 so it will fit the 513 alum bell , that would probably be cheaper than buyer another retainer unless you get lucky and find one used . Good luck finding that bell for 200 or less , I hope you aren't in a hurry . Brewer has them as a repop...

    4 speed hump location

You'll notice the floor has contours , the hump is contoured also , it's not to hard to figure out where it goes once you drop in on the fllor pan. do as the person that put the pictures above did , drop it on , trace it out , go an inch or so inside your tracing and that is what you cut out .

    A833

The first 2 rows of numbers you put up are not cast into the trans , the second row is the partial VIN from a 1968 car built at Hamtramack , in 68 they built B Bodies and A bodies. H4 C 87622 is a CASTING number and pretty much USELESS to figure out what the trans is because all 833 4 speeds...

fitting small block a body 833 into big block bell housing

If he is using the stock iron 372 bell he can just use the 340 trans as is as they had the 4.35 bearing retainer hole. An alternative is to use the 70 up 513 alum bell as it is almost an exact copy of the 372 bell. It has the bosses in the same place to mount the A body bracket but has the 4.8...

Z-bar frame ballstud bracket location/repair help

Neither of those shifters are OEM Chrysler shifters , the one with the Coors Light handle is closer though , the one with the funky reverse lever is I think for a Muncie . the reverse lever on a Mopar specific shifter sweeps rearward , A body and B body used the same shifter box , they are easy...

No way to know without opening it up at this point, post a picture showing the other side of the trans and not as close . Is it an alum case or cast iron? hello

I'm not really sure what the factory used for a 4 speed in the 68 superstock A bodies but the trans would be a crash box. It's very easy to convert A B or B/E hemui trans to fit the A body , just swap the mainshft and the tailhousing froma NON OD A body 4 speed. Get the STAMPED numbers off...

I added it up and is south of 2700 , but not everyone needs to buy SFI parts. Problems will not go away....

One thing I notice is you have the WRONG 3-4 shift rod for the OD trans , looks like you have the non od 4 speed rods , the 3-4 rod is shaped differently so it doesn't rub on the floor like it looks like yours is doing .

    Shifter Mounting Plate

If there is a difference it isn't by much , the shifter box might be at a slightly different angle. Make sure the shifter is adjusted properly. Also remove the shift lever off the trans and make sure it shifts into gear like that , if it doesn't then there is a clash between parts inside the...
