273 Commando 4 Speed with Brewer Performance Replacement Clutch

I don't know the exact specifications of that clutch but my guess would be you'll be fine if everything is clean and in good working order. It also depends on what tires you're using, they can really be the measuring stick for clutches. One clutch may work just fine with a set of 245 street...

    Drivers/Racers - 4 Speed Driving Lesson Required

Yes this is an excellent point gone are the days of a cop saying knock it off as you and your buddy chuckle and drive away are gone. At least that's a chance that you may not want to take. But if you are at least in a controlled area where there's no real possible chance of you hitting something...

    Drivers/Racers - 4 Speed Driving Lesson Required

As far as doing a burnout you want to engage the clutch in the around your maximum torque, so for instance bring your motor up to 25 00 RPMs or so maybe a little more release the clutch quickly quickly! enough to break the tires free then accelerate into the spinning tires. As your motor RPMs...

Not able to engage gears when running

After rereading your post again it sounds more like a clutch problem, you'll need to jack it up pull the inspection plate and start looking around , check the linkage rod but it kind of sounds internal to me very well could be a throw out bearing.

Not able to engage gears when running

One thing to check make sure that the linkage has slipped completely over the tab coming out of the transmission and it's not riding on top.

    Over center spring

if I recall someone said something like depress the pedal then put washers between the coils or something of that nature it sounded like a pretty good idea to me. Just keep your mouth closed and safety glasses on.

Throwout bearing slipped off clutch fork

Look for a cracked or broken fork clip the clip that holds the fork to the bellhousing, also check for excessive wear on the front bearing cover that the throw out bearing slides back and forth on. Also broken or damaged clutch fingers can cause side loading. I had that problem for years trust...

Bowing to peer pressure A body style

Thanks I do have another 8 and 3/4 under my bench :D it's a 323 but it'll get me through the summer if it's more than just an adjustment.

Bowing to peer pressure A body style

For sure, I've been wanting to change out my yoke. And lash has always seemed excessive every since I put it in a few years ago. I'm not really convinced that it's the rear end I might just lost a wheel weight but it seems to get worse under deceleration which leads me to believe it's the rear end.

    Is this a bad idea?

I don't know something doesn't sound quite right. What size is your back tires, and what is your tac say at 60 mph. My 340 with 323s and four-speed would do 85 or 90 in 3rd gear no problem. And would just purr at 70 or 75 in fourth gear.

    833 4spd repair advice

Well I sure hope you didn't fry anything! As mentioned starting the motor in gear is not putting any particular stress on the transmission but it is hard on the thrust bearing the way I understand it. I would also do a suggested fill the transmission up put the car up on blocks or jacks and...

    Flywheel integrity

I understand the dangers of an exploding flywheel but in 40 years of Street racing I have only seen one flywheel come apart and actually I was very young and I believe it was a fastener problem and not the flywheel actually failing also thousands and thousands of iron flywheels have been used...

    Flywheel integrity

My question is at what point you step away from a iron flywheel. The question is not related to power but strength of a iron flywheel. Assuming a Duc iron flywheel is in perfect shape what horsepower or RPM range do you feel it's time to move to a superior material.

I have a question about original shifter knobs. My 70 340 swinger has a black knob, I believe it to be original. Did the knobs come in black and wood grain? And so if so how can you tell an original knob

    HOW BAD IS IT!

the pipe installation is very clean but not repair friendly, I would not try to do any transmission work without removing the pipes. so cut those babes and have some flanges or some type of joint welded in. this will not be the last time you will need the room to work and the pipes will be in...

    4.56 gears 4-speed?

yes, it is to much gear for the street and unless you are setting up a race car I would not go 456. I ran 430s on the street for a few years and that was to much gear in my opinion. I run a 4 speed also and would consider 410s to be the biggest gear I would go.
