    383 cam choice

It was me I'd be looking at a cam very close to the 1970 HP 383 roadrunner camshaft. Keeping duration as close as possible while increasing the lift.

    COMP Cams Nostalgia Plus

As I would not argue this point , I believe Comp Cam took advantage of timing when the purple plus series was developed many cam companies were convincing the public that their old single patterns were obsolete a point that was argued by many top knowledgeable cam grinders. But by taking a...

    COMP Cams Nostalgia Plus

I have a tendency to agree I have never been sold on the purple plus platform I believe the original Mopar purples camshafts to be superior and believe the added exhaust duration is not really beneficial in most applications. But by no means a bad cam.

    383 vs 360 in an A 68 Cuda

The only reason I would go big block in a body is if it was a Max effort build and I needed more than 600 horses 600 foot pounds of torque or maybe I was just setting it up for a drag car and I was going to be pounding on it the big block is a little more robust overall. In my opinion the small...

The importance of a torque plate

So it seems those numbers would only increase as the motor got hotter correct?

Is the 383 a better engine, or does the 440 just have more displacement?

What was the question again.. LOL all I can say is no matter what you throw money at you can make it fast 383 , 440 or400 and they'll always be one faster unless it's a Keith Black nitro burning b****.all I know is when I used to street race I could always handle the 383s with my 340 but the...

    Lowest cost 400 stroker

Don't kid yourself a 451 will snap most of the parts in your Wagoner no problem. Stroke makes torque but so does bore a 451 purpose built for what you're talking about would be a monster and I really can't believe you would need much more. Unless you're dragging a single 50 foot trailer around LOL

    CAM PERFORMANCE QUESTION

It's going to be a little peaky, strong mid-range and upper end. But with a good tune and all things working properly it should run very well in my opinion. It's going to be thirsty and sound great. It'll would respond well to having the cam advanced 4 degrees. Both helpful to the compression...

As long as your compression ratio comes in between 9.5 to 10.5 or so those parts should work beautifully.

440 Camshaft recommendations for up to 6-6,500 rpm?

Now back to your camshaft, there are a lot of variables but shooting from the hip I would be looking at something in this range. 323 are a little tricky running up that high on the RPMs because of the long gears work against a peaky cam. There are faster cams out there no doubt but this would...

440 Camshaft recommendations for up to 6-6,500 rpm?

Off subject but any well tuned 68 through 71 340 was good for 300 horses with factory exhaust manifolds with headers 325 easy. six pack and get another 20 horses some tests show even more.

440 Camshaft recommendations for up to 6-6,500 rpm?

I'm not a big block specialist but a couple questions come to mind first off, what is your rear end ratio, #2 automatic or 4-speed,#3 carburation and manifold setup #4 will it be Street driven and what type of Cam flat tap it roller?

Can a 400BBM w/cheap aluminum heads compete/dominate against the street LS?

Absolutely can be done. The question is how much money you got honey ?9 second 383 Mopar turbocharged really isn't that hard. I would think a 300 shot on an all forged 400 would kick a lot of LS chubys in the face. One of my sons friends had a pretty badass trans am late model LS drag radials...

I think durability and attention to detail are just two of the reasons that you would choose a professional motor Builder. sounds like a awesome project, I have just seen stock stroke 383 that were procharged in the nines and was thinking a lot could be accomplished with a properly built stock stroke 400 but your plans Maybe exceeding that.

    head gasket

I don't feel it is necessary to pull both heads, but if you are that far into it it is nice to pull the other side and check out condition of your top end clean up everything and torque down two new gaskets.

Help me win this argument 400 in a 72.

The 400 has great power potential but it takes some work, in my opinion if I was building for max power I would take a good long look at the 400 but if a B.A street/ strip car is your goal a 360 is a very good base.
