can I use lead to seal an exhaust leak>

I will give a short course in economics, since you seem to ignore post #3. When trying to be cheap, one will attempt to spend less. Money and time is spent going for patches, and application on a rusty paper thin system, in the end just as much will be spent. It will not last like like a...

    early a-body (64-66 cuda or valiant) exhaust - H or X

I think I read in the direct connection racing manual about 30 years ago that the exhaust could be spray painted, where it stops burning off is where the cross goes. I could be wrong, or crazy.

Is exhaust back pressure the culprit here?

Have you checked the choke pull-off?

    Exhaust Gaskets

I think you need some movement to avoid cracks. The important part is the correct end stud washers and nuts, tightened to no more than 15 Ft-Lbs. The gaskets wear due to movement, no gasket, glides metal on metal, and still seals.

    65 Dart Exaust Manifold Removal

I have a 66 with PS that is not the problem. It has more to do with kick-down linkage on automatic. The outlet end just passes in the firewall indentation located between steering column and rear of head. The bell crank for kick-down likely needs to be removed from head to make room. Valve...

    headers wrap question

I have used wrap on painted headers for a couple decades without problems. I would think burning pipes likely happens due to retarted timing, not wrap. Without the wrap some may see when they turn orange, but most know the engine would also be running like crap, as an indicator too.

Soft or hard bolts for exhaust flange?

Grade 8, do not over torque, just enough to tesion the bolt. About 15 ft-lbs for 5/16" bolts. Manifolds expand, and slip some on the heads, especially at the ends. To much can break bolts. That is why most manifolds did not have gaskets. But with headers, most need gaskets.

    Ever had this happen? (pics)

How odd, that is after the muffler. It does look paper thin. So to get a back fire like that, there may be an ignition problem too.

    tension heat riser spring

Just enough to close when cold and fully open when warmed up. My guess is one.

    Heat riser open stop

I just found some rare and expensive asbestos covered tabs heat riser stops on ebay. I think a dab of high temperature silicone on the tab will work to quiet the stop.

    Heat riser open stop

I recent noticed that the heat riser in my 273 did not have a stop in the full open position. The bi-metal spring allows over travel, such that the damper would restrict exhaust flow. I fabricated a 3/4" x 1" tab from 10 gauge steel with a 7/16" hole in one end, that bolts to the exhaust...

    Correct Exhaust System

I recently purchased and installed a Waldron exhaust on my 66 Barracuda. It is the non HiPo. Excluding the Y-pipe, I am satisfied, it fit well. While the Y-pipe was bent near identical it differed in the header flanges. The original had formed flanges, the new one 1/4" steel. I was going to...

    5/8 = 0.625, so 1.625 and 1-5/8 are the same size.

    another header ?

I checked and it sounds like they will fit on an early-a. The price and looks make me want to buy. I am holding back to see pictures and someones install experience.
