    Power Nation /6

My son sent me the link this morning and I just watched it on my big screen. High dollar complicated build but the torque numbers at the end are very impressive.

Poor hot idle caused by ethanol gas? Whaddya think?

Have you rerouted the fuel line from the stock location? When I first got my 64 on the road I used all the stock components which was fine for awhile. Then I noticed symptoms of heat soak when summer came. I did the @slantsixdan reroute of the fuel line over the valve cover.and it's been fibe...

    Dakota mini starter

Found this at a swap meet for $30 about 6 yrs ago. Don't know what it came out of other than Dodge truck. Used it for 2 yrs before the contacts burned out. Bought new contacts for $10 and still working. No wiring changes required at all. Large and small nuts are metric though.

Newbie Question re Oil Filler Breather Cap

My 64 breather was deteriorating and bits of the media was falling out. In the short term I'm running a new tall chrome one found at a swap meet, could've been Mopar Nats. Tony Dagostino was reproducing them for Hemi engines ($$$) and I rummaged through his seconds and bought it for like half...

69 Dart Hard to Start When Hot, Starts Fine Cold. Vapor Lock?

90% of electrical problems are fuel related. 90% of fuel problems are electrical. That being said, it sounds like you have a fuel issue because the problem didn't improve with an ignition "upgrade". Most likely heat soak. Today's gas is notorious for that. You should reroute the fuel line so...

    Slant 6 power issues

As already mentioned, if it was running ok before you removed, then reinstalled the distributor, it sounds like you need to verify the position.

    Super Six carb factory video

The subject of what carb to use on a /6 seems to come up often. This is a factory training film that shows proper adjustment of a Super Six BBD and the differences with the more common 318 carb. It's so good that it could be made a sticky in the /6 section. @memike

    Top end oil

There are lube holes in the rocker shaft approx 1/8" diameter. One for every rocker. The 225 in my Valiant had been parked for 32 years and every hole was plugged from dried sludge. I actually removed the plugs in the ends of the shaft and thoroughly cleaned everything out.

1968 Plymouth slant six power steering pump

Rockauto should have them. You may have have to swap your pulley and reservoir over. Did that for my Comanche 4-5 yrs ago and it's fine.

How should I start no oil to rockers

Exactly! I don't recall the diameter but they were ruined removing them. It's been about 6 years but I may still have a few somewhere.

How should I start no oil to rockers

I agree. My 225 had not been run for 32 yrs when I got it. Did a full rebuild but found that the rocker shaft was plugged with dried out oil sludge. There is a small oil feed hole (1/8"?) through the shaft for each rocker. Mine were plugged. I took the plugs out of each end of the shaft and...

    Carburetor Recommendation

I googled 36 DCD and found one with a mechanical choke. WEBER 36/36 DCD PROGRESSIVE/TWO-STAGE CARBURETTOR (Manual Choke) - Classic Carbs UK 656 British pounds plus shipping sounds like a lot of dinero. I'd consider F.I. at that price.

Anyone have one of these laying around, or do I need to fix it?

It's been a while but mine was broken too. I welded the broken piece back on and if I followed my usual thinking, added a bit of reinforcement.

what's the favorite replacment starter for these sixes?

When I got my car the starter was dead. Luckily there are quite a few big Mopar events near me in Ohio. I came across a few starters laying on the ground at a swap meet. I talked to the guy and he didn't know what vehicles they were out of. I picked one out and holding it on the ground with my...

changing out oil pan while in car- done it?

I was just going to suggest the exact same thing. I used 3/8-16 thru bolts and nuts. You can even use brass nuts if you're so inclined. After 5 yrs I had them off this summer and it's about a one minute job. I also used a Remflex gasket at the joint this time. After replacing my pan twice, in...

    Slant six space

When I first got my 64 225 running, I used a new see through gas filter. It never truly filled up enough to eliminate the air bubble. The engine ran perfectly so I just ignored it. Later, after I started putting miles on it during hot summer days, it started showing symptoms of heat soak. The...

changing out oil pan while in car- done it?

Trouble in paradise. I have a Barracuda Buddy who lives in Hawaii during the winter (2nd gen convertible) and he complains about corrosion too. He lost his house in a lava flow. He also has Hemi and 440 powered cudas here when he summers in Ohio and those corrode during the winter in an unheated...

changing out oil pan while in car- done it?

I replaced the pan gasket while my /6 was still in the car about 4 yrs ago. 1964 Val, 225 with no power accessories and manual trans. My fresh paint on the oil pan got scratched up and I managed to strip one of the oil pan attaching hokes on the aluminum rear seal housing. As usual, I was in a...

1973 Dodge Dart slant 6 questions

Pictures of the engine would help ID the parts involved. How capable are you? Clean the slime off the power steering parts, finishing with brake cleaner. Go for a drive and see if you can determine where the leaks are when you get back. 48 year old parts are gonna leak! I'll see if I can post...

    Street Cruser

Kinda like a cross with a 69 Charger 500. They flushed the grille to elimibate the very un-aerodynamic scoop effect for NASCAR. My 68 is a plain Jane car and I've day dreamed about doing a mild custom and possible changes would be to custom build a vertical bar flush grille, shave the drip...

225 slant 6, exhaust manifold triangles

Welcome! There is a procedure to follow when you bolt the intake and exhaust manifolds onto the head. Just cranking down on the nuts will lead to the exhaust manifold cracking. The center part is the only area that is stationary because of the conical washer. The triangular clamping washers...

Very nice project! It looks like there may be room to fit a vertical heat shield between the turbo and inner fender. 74 Slant 6 Bogs & Stalls Under Load / 30 mph

I posted this in the Carb Woes post so this is kind of a repost but the title of this one says stalls under load/30mph. Note that the FSM says problems could show up between 15 and 30 mph. ******* I was just looking at a 1973 FSM and it flat out says that if there is excessive throttle shaft...

    Carb woes

When you set the manual choke, is it pushing the choke valve fully closed? There needs to be a gap between the blade and the bore so some air can be let in. ****** I'm lucky to have a BBS on mine. Hot start or cold, engine runs perfectly. It is a very simple carb. The 1920 Holley seems to be...

Slant six spark plugs and numbers

Your engine obviously has the 1975 model year and newer head on it. It still may be the 1973 block with a swapped head or maybe the whole engine was swapped out. See post number 6 and 10. What to tell the exhaust shop.

For a stock /6 I'd go 2-1/4 turbo muffler and have a local exhaust shop do it. I find the difficult area to be from the manifold through the steering and shift linkage. Check out Waldron. 1960-76 Dodge Mid Size 6 cyl Single Exhaust

    1968 Dart Air Cleaner Housing

It looks like your car has the original air cleaner assy but it has been modified with the added corrugated pipe. If that was an attempt to get cooler air to the carb it's a failure. The entire bottom of the upper housing is open to ambient atmosphere and air will take the path of least...
