After A/C Add On Engine Overheats Really Bad

    * Also consider adding a "puke can" for the coolant overflow . You can get a "generic" bottle from NAPA (et al.) and mount it either in the engine compartment or hidden in , say , the wheelwell's underside . Again , good luck to you !

After A/C Add On Engine Overheats Really Bad

An engine that operates at too-low a temperature is a bad thing ! If it doesn't get "hot" enough , it won't be able to burn-off unburned gasses and other impurities . Please note that MoPars equipped with either an axle package or factory-installed air conditioning had : - 22" or 26" wide...

Water pump blocked by AC compressor

Do you have access to a "FSM" ( Factory Service Manual ) for an 'A' Body ? It's been a number of years --decades , truly-- since I've replaced a water pump (or have performed other invasive work) on an A/C-equipped LA Engine ( and never on a B/RB engine ), other than my personal 1972 Coronet ...

    67 Dart cooling issues

Sledger46 - You're heading in the right direction by adding that 7 paddle fan ; good call ! A shroud is an absolute necessity on a street-operated vehicle , as it directs air through the radiator (pulls it through) . Sealing is of paramount importance as well , otherwise the drawn-through air...

    67 Dart cooling issues

Let me preface my reply / opinion by stating that I despise electric fans when they're used in-place of an engine-driven arrangement . Here's my recommendation for what it's worth : 1.) 5-7 paddle viscous fan in the O.E.M. style (make certain to use a fan clutch . direct-drive fans are garbage...

    Which radiator

A "Clutch" fan will actually save power vs. a (cringe) Flex Fan , as the fan will freewheel when it's not *needed* , and turn faster than engine speed when operating temps raise .

    Which radiator

1.) Go wider not thicker ; 2.) Fan shroud ; 3.) 7 paddle viscous fan ; 4.) H.D. fan clutch . You can't go wrong with the O.E.M. (or close to it) cooling system , as used on cars with Axle Packages , towing package , or a/c . The first one (the 26" wide model) is the one to use .

    $40 for a can of Freon? I think /not/.

Thanks ,Charrlie_S , for sharing your a/c expertise with us :glasses7: . When I first got my license (in 1989 at age 19) , R12 was still available in ~6 oz recharge cans ; and , it was dirt cheap . As a side note : when r134a , et seq. , systems came along in the early 90's as a "safe"...

    Fan Distance

The *simple* answer is to replicate the cooling system that an axle package ( e.g. , "Performance Axle Pkg" , "High Perf Axle Pkg" , "Super Perf Axle Pkg" , "Track Pak" or "Super Track Pak" ) equipped car would have come with from the factory : - 7 paddle fan - Thermostatic clutch - Wide (26")...

    Dart over heating???

Take the fan spacers and throw 'em into the trash , then go buy a real fan ( more than 4 blades ! ) and get a fan clutch . Direct-drive fans are worthless ; they suck power from the motor , whereas a fan which declutches is much less of a drag . IF you end up replacing the radiator , go wide...

    White Vingar Radiator Flush

Thanks to all whom have replied with opinions , experiences and suggestions :toothy7:. I'll admit right-off that I'm lazy . The white vinegar seemed like the easiest route with maximum results :joker: . As mentioned , I'm planning to flush with straight water after the vinegar flush . Thanks...

    White Vingar Radiator Flush

Really ? No one ? I'm switching a friend's car over to G05 ( newer Chrysler & Ford , the gold-coloured stuff ) and want to rid his car's cooling system of all traces of green coolant and heavily calcified water . He's putting aluminum heads on his '72 Dart's 340 , and I'd suggested a mixed (...

Has anyone here tried white vinegar as a radiator / cooling system flush ? If so , what process / procedure did you use ?

    Coolant Recommendations?

You're thinking of the HOAT coolants : Hybrid Organic Acid Technology . Basically , they're for mixed-metals engines ; and , they're great for our old(er) motors that have aluminum heads , aluminum radiators and a combination of aluminum heads with the old brass & copper radiators . Don't...

    Thermostat Question

195 for California ; 185 for 49 state models . these numbers are for the 1972 model year . I run a 195 in my daily driver 1972 Coronet , stock 318 / 904 , 26" factory rad . The trick is to not go too low temp-wise , otherwise your car can actually run hotter !
  16. LH23H2R

    Ditch the Thermostat?

How's the rest of the cooling system ? Is there a -correct- fan shroud ? Is the fan a direct-drive or is it clutched ? I've always run clutched fans ( typically , thermal-drive ) with as many blades as possible , regardless of a/c or not . Thicker-width radiators will make a car run hotter ...
