Stock magnum heads cam roll call!

That is poorly worded and should be changed. The shop car didn't have stock magnum heads. The heads I just measured are .575 total on exhaust. You won't have their recommended .060 clearance with your cam. I think that spec is waaaaaay safe personally, and you should be fine, but its your motor....

Stock magnum heads cam roll call!

Hey All: What cam are you running in a stock headed Magnum? Do you like it? Did you check stuff like retainer to guide clearance or did you just jam it in there? Curious to see what develops....

What cam do you have in your magnum?

A 570 is too small for that combo. I ran a 670 on the street on my Magnum. Also, its probably best to get a custom cam. As magnums only came in trucks, all the shelf cams out there seem to be truck oriented.Your car can use more cam that that in all probability. You can check out the way I did...

Or you're simply missing out on power and don't know it. The Pro Products will function, just not nearly as well. The little details add up, but by all means keep running the PP intake. The Chinese will appreciate it and so will the Chevy guys. Anyone can align a gasket to an intake when its...

How does the intake gasket affect which belt it runs? I run LA style gaskets. If you really want to have fun, lay a set of intake gaskets on a motor, install and torque down a pro products intake. Score the exposed portions of the gasket so you will be able to line it up as it was installed...

    Decisions Decisions Decisions....

As the response was about using the LA style bolt pattern intakes, I'm speaking of the LA style RPM Air Gap intake. The LA version uses LA style attachments, and works with V-belts no problem. The manufacturing quality on the Edelbrock is far superior to the PP. The port and runner volume is...

Well, if it needs bored, he's buying pistons of course, but if not... I guess I bought mine from Hughes, but they did cc out to a shade over 58 cc. The mags at the time were also touting 58cc, but maybe that was something Hughes did in their 'prep'. Steve

    Decisions Decisions Decisions....

I'd save the piston money and do some other upgrades instead. If you want more compression, it'd be a lot easier and cheaper to just use some thinner head gaskets. The EQ heads also have 58cc chambers vs the stock 61-64cc deals, so you can add a little compression there as well, and they make...

    Fuel system info

Be sure you guys periodically check those rubber lines, even if they're "fuel rated." With this crazy amounts of ethanol they're putting in the fuel these days, I'm seeing failures and "damn near" failures in short periods of time. Steve

    5.9 magnum 2002

The correct balancer and flexplate are way cheaper than internally balancing the magnum. Balancer: http://www.scramspeed.com/Pro-Products-Street-Balancer-Small-Block-Mopar-p/scr59360a.htm Flexplate: Seen them on Ebay for $50-60 bucks. If you want to run the V-belt stuff on your magnum go...

good street cam for 360 magnum

I'd really recommend a custom cam. Hydraulic rollers are kind of pricy, and its really not much more at all to have Comp grind one to your specs.... You need valve springs if you're running a cam. The magnum stockers suck. I can't imagine what shipping to Hawaii would cost, but those Iron Ram...

    Whos running a 5.9L Magnum ?

Last I checked, Magnums were still awesome! Why is it that we tell everyone to do a search, but when they reply to threads they found, we give them hell for that too? :)

    OEM magnum lifters setup

Yeah, you get hydraulic rollers spinning in their bores and you're going to be hating life with a quickness... Mine is hydraulic roller btw. Mine pumped up when I would run the oil pump up, but still were noisier at idle than I liked. Should have done the solid lifter check from the get go...

    OEM magnum lifters setup

Sorry, .033 longer, not .33 I bet .050 would be better, but the 6.933 were only $23.00. When I get it dialed, I'll get some real pushrods. But for now the difference is night and day. Measuring pushrod length with pedestal rockers sucks for sure. I made some solid lifters which helps (only...

    OEM magnum lifters setup

What do you mean here? Half a turn on what? The stock rockers should be tightened down all the way, all the time. torque to 21 ft lbs and done.

    OEM magnum lifters setup

Hey After responding to this thread I happened to have mine apart this weekend and I gave it a closer look. I think it might be a symptom of the pushrods being too short, like its not compressing the plunger past the weep hole or something, so the lifter bleeds down and then there's a little...

    OEM magnum lifters setup

I don't know if its normal or not, but mine does the same thing. Supposedly some of the lifter bores in these blocks are machined poorly at the top. You might check that out while you've got it apart. Also, these lifters seem to take an awful lot of preload.

Edelbrock Air Gap on Magnum 318 Problems

I don't think the intake manifold is your problem. A wideband would go a long way towards helping this. Sounds like you either need more pump shot, a different style of squirter, or perhaps the idle mix is too lean. Have you messed with the squirters at all? I am guessing the HP doesn't have a...

    Whos running a 5.9L Magnum ?

I don't want to hack on the floor to fit an OD trans, plus I got a lot of work in this 904. PLus I think I'd rather buzz the crap out of the motor than R&R the thing again. ha ha

    Whos running a 5.9L Magnum ?

Thanks man! My original plan had been to use the stock Magnum heads, but they were cracked. Iron rams are the base model 1.9 valves, untouched as delivered for $800 a pair (plus drilling for LA intakes, the LA bolt castings were out of stock) ...If I were to do it again, I would have had the...

    Whos running a 5.9L Magnum ?

I'm running one and like it a lot. I left the shortblock as it was in the Durango. I put on a Kevko pan, custom hydraulic roller cam, RPM Air Gap, Quickfuel 750 DP, 1-5/8 Hooker Comps through 2.5" X-pipe. Stock rocker gear, Iron Ram heads. I converted it to LA style serpentine setup and had...
