Who races w/OE Magnum short blocks

There's a roller wheel at the tip, and there are roller bearings in the fulcrum as well. Stock stuff, no rollers anywhere.

Who races w/OE Magnum short blocks

Mine are stock. The ones I had in my Dart were stock as well, right up until I put Harland Sharps on and it made no difference.

Who races w/OE Magnum short blocks

My advice would be to get the EQ heads with some good valve springs. They're reasonably cheap, offer a substantial horsepower benefit over stockers, don't crack, and if you pick the right part number you can bolt up LA intakes to them, which are significantly better than the intakes available...

Who races w/OE Magnum short blocks

On the stock heads I am working on, the exhaust is a measly .575 total clearance (they say it varies). Intake side is better but still crap. That means no greater than a .515 in theory. In practice, the Magnums lose a bit of lift due to the goofy pushrod angle, say 3%, but its best not to gamble...

I've had it with cheap Chinese trailer tires!

So, after speaking with several people, including heads-up racers that travel many thousands of miles every year with fully loaded trailers.... This is apparently the hands-down winner as far as they're all concerned: The Maxxis M8008. Many claim after switching away from other tires that...

I've had it with cheap Chinese trailer tires!

Even the Chinese should be able to make a decent trailer tire. This **** is ridiculous. Blew a tire on the trailer last weekend. Goodyear chinese crap. Two years old, maybe (maybe) 5K on it. 18 miles later the Goodyear Chinese spare with about 18 miles on it blew apart. Lo and Behold, the only...

Finally, got my 5.9 Dart to the track. It went well, then it went to hell.

It all turned out to be a too tight valve guide. That can happen on any combination. Check out the website, it covers the whole thing in a lot more detail. www.magnumswap.com

It is the same car. All this happened years ago.

Finally, got my 5.9 Dart to the track. It went well, then it went to hell.

Haha, well they definitely are. I sold the car because I was going to relocate to Austin Texas and the moving situation didn't allow for the hobby. Unfortunately, I ended up not moving, so I am still stuck in this hellhole and I've got no Dart! I am currently helping a buddy run his '93...

Finally, got my 5.9 Dart to the track. It went well, then it went to hell.

For anyone interested, the solution turned out to be a too-tight valve guide causing the valve to stick when it got hot. Hughes was close by so I took the head over there, they fixed it while I waited -at no charge), and I never had a problem again. Car went on to run 11.70s many many times...

    Spray on factory hypers(Magnums)....

Magnums are hyper. Hyper is way way way way way stronger than cast. Way. We split the block on a stock Ford 5.0 before we hurt the hyper pistons. The stock 5.0 roller block is only good to about 500rwhp (with nitrous) before it splits down the lifter valley. The magnum block is a lot stronger...

    Spray on factory hypers(Magnums)....

Hyper pistons are a lot stronger than people think. The things to keep in mind are that detonation KILLs them, and there is a lower max limit cylinder pressure they will tolerate vs a forged piston. And when they go, they GO. You will be picking pieces out of everything. Here's a GM LS engine...

    Race shocks on the street.

I have calvert 90/10 on the front of mine. Couple things. I didn't really pick up a lot of 60', if any, from these over stock shocks. Mine's basically a high 11 second 1.5x 60' car with caltracs and their adjustables on the back. Your needs/experience may vary. The best 60' in the car (by .002)...

    11 sec. build cost?

Superchargers are great fun, but don't forget the added cost of a good fuel system. You need a boost reference regulator, good pump, carb, carb hat, lines, fittings yada yada. It adds up to a lot more than it seems like it should. And there are teething pains on the tune too. You're either...

    11 sec. build cost?

I don't know about the rear. Certainly stock axles and slicks don't get along. If you want ET, its holley. If you want street manners and E-Z tuning, get a Street Avenger carb. Cheap, easy and capable of good ETs. I run/ran a 670 on mine. Have you already got that camshaft? Don't forget the...

    11 sec. build cost?

You don't have to build a race car to run 11s. If you can deal with going slower than 11.49, you can save a lot of money on a roll bar. My Dart is full weight (still have the bench seat) and runs 11s no matter what the weather (its usually terrible in Illinois). I ran 11s with under $2500 in...

    MSD Atomic EFI

The 600 hp limit is based on injector size. It has been my experience that injectors will typically supply a lot more than their given rating, if the tune is right. I've had Ford Lightning injectors (42 lb hr) support 500hp [/i]at the tires[/i]. I believe the MSD systems come with 85 lb hr...

Oh boy I want to go fast

It doesn't take a 408 to run 11s, and if your suspension isn't set up as well as your engine all you're going to do is make tire smoke and spend money. I'm running mid-high 11s with a junkyard shortblock. With cam, heads and intake it makes about 330 horsepower at the tires through a built...

who has drove to the track and couldn't drive home(because you broke it)

I've broken my Dart a number of times, but always had a trailer. When I was running stock ratio pulleys I went through two parts store alternators from overspinning. Underdrive crank pulley was the solution. I had a sticky valve guide at one point and it would sieze and kill pushrods, then...

mufflers for around the house use?

These sound like they might work ok, especially if you tacked the 3 chamber version into a 3" muffler and held it on with one of the above band clamps. Keep in mind the measurements in the link are from 50' behind the vehicle. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2000/09/ccinserts/index.php...

    Track accident

That's horrible. Maybe I'm missing it, but, what safety regs did she violate? Sounds like she was passed out and her foot was wedged against the gas or something?

mufflers for around the house use?

No you didn't... Don't they have some kind of collector inserts or something. They should lower your exhaust noise to completely obnoxious and untenable. Which is one step lower than "I'm going to burn that new guy's garage to the ground while he's at work."

    Torque converter

Having the right converter for your combo is worth a lot. Our combinations are very similar, horsepower, weight, shift RPM and short block. I run a 3.91 gear and a 26" tire. My car consistently 60's in the low 1.5s on an 8" slick. I run a 904 with about a 3500 stall, and I have a transbrake...

    Holley Blue Fuel Pumps

I also highly recommend the Mallory pumps. In addition to being infinitely more reliable, they are also extremely quiet. You can scarcely hear them even when the car isn't running.

What shocks to run on the Demon

Cool, I'd also recommend the reinforcement plates for the front spring hanger. I don't know if those really get twisted up or torn out, but they put the plates on the hemi cars for a reason, and they didn't run radials. Cheap insurance/easy install anyway.

What shocks to run on the Demon

The Calvert adjustable rear shocks work pretty well on my car, especially when the track prep isn't up to snuff. I have their fronts also, but I am thinking of going back to stock replacement as they rise too quickly. Stick and radial is a tough nut to crack. There's a LOT of 60' in getting...
