    Holley Float Bowl Gaskets

I've used the Holley blue gaskets and reused them many times with jet changes. I did have an issue a while back where the initial installation was fine but subsequent re-used caused a leak, apparently after the gasket was initially compressed. Something in, on or around the carb was keeping the...

    LD340 vs other intakes

I used a 360 with Holley Strip Dominator, unported LAX heads, around 255*@.050 flat tappet cam in a 3,540+ lb car. BUT.....it had 4.86 gears, 30x9" tires and a converter that actually flashed to 4900-5400 rpm, depending on the weather. Footbraked from 3-3500 rpm, stayed well above flash thru the...

    TQ questions

I can offer a few bits of info but I never got Thermoquads figured out for my purposes. The 9811 is an aftermarket performance version that wasn't available as OEM on any cars or trucks. That "family" includes 9800, 9801, 9810 & 9811. Depending on the overall condition, that may be the best one...

    Holley stubstack

Taller is better with filters, as long as you have hood clearance. But if you're trying the K&N Filter lid that is also a filter, do some careful testing. I don't know if it changed the clearance above the vents and/or if it had something to do with the pleated filter which caused the air to...

    Holley stubstack

I don't have one anymore but when I did, I found that my particular combo needed to be 2 jet numbers richer because it helped airflow enough to lean it out that much. It did help ET a bit but don't recall how much. Naturally it helps to have your jetting as close to optimized as possible.to...

    Street Demon accelerator pump nozzles

I agree that they should work. I believe they had that "anti-pullover" nozzle design originally on the early Holly Spreadbores. The design is suppose to keep fuel from being siphoned out of the squirters at high rpm. BUT, I thought that was the purpose of the needle that were located under the...

    Holley Jet “H”

Found this- Holley jet question - Don Terrill’s Speed-Talk ...also found - "close limit jets are +/- 1.5% and standard jets are +/- 3% from the specified flow." But then the thread says the jet # followed by a "2" is a indicator of close tolerance jets!

    Holley Jet “H”

Anybody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there is at least one other letter involved on closer precision jets indicating flow. i.e.: A standard #78 jet has a manufacturers tolerance. A 78H would flow on the high (rich) side of the standard tolerance..

Pros & Cons of vacuum vs. mechanical secondaries?

If tuned correctly and the car combo can handle the double pumper, it will launch harder & be faster than a vacuum secondary. I tested quite a bit and I saw at least a tenth advantage in a 750 4779 double pumper over a 750 3310 vacuum carb on my particular 360 race only application. But I had...

Dual Plane vs Single Plane Manifold with TBI

No F.I. experience here, but it would seem that the A/F ratio would be more consistent with a TBI when using a single plane intake. With a Holley 750 DP carb, I have experienced different jetting requirements between plenums on a dual plane by 2 jet numbers. The deeper plenum ran leaner than the...

    Anyone use fuel system cleaners?

I've used the Lucas cleaner I buy at Walmart in 32oz (I think) bottles in my Dakota and small engines (lawn mower, generator, etc.) I know it works because I've had issues starting my lawn mower after it sat for a long time. After just adding the Lucas and letting it sit for a few days, it...

Holley question, what do think of Vacuum Secondary vs "Double Pumper"?

FWIW, I ran both 750 vacuum (3310) and double pumps(4779 + Quick Fuel) for many years in race only 10-11 second 360/auto/footbrake applications. The closest I ever got the 2 was about a tenth of a second ET in the 1/4 mile. Not surprisingly, the advantage went to the double pump. They are harder...

    Carb spacer

I've used the Canton brand of spacers. They have the standard 4-hole as well as tapered 4-hole, like a Super Sucker. I prefer these over aluminum or plastic. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ctr-85-158

TM5 versus Torker and 340 Torker

Some of the race TQ gurus disable some things on a TQ and I've seen a very wide range of jet recommendations. I believe a lot has to do with how some of the other adjustments are set. But that's for race only.

TM5 versus Torker and 340 Torker

Wish I could get another TQ to work on my Aspen wagon in NHRA Stock. I still have a lot to learn about Thermoquads. I tinkered on Holley carbs all my life and have a Holley Ultra 750 DP on the Dart. Need to get the Aspen sorted out but I have no idea when I'll be able to race either one again.

TM5 versus Torker and 340 Torker

If you have room under the hood, consider adding a 4-hole spacer, and you may have to go with bigger accellerator pump cams & squirters. The Victor has a pretty deep plenum which doesn't help bottom end. I used a Holley Strip Dominator, which is shallower, on a race only combo. Never tried a...

Small Block Weiand Action+ vs. Edelbrock RPM Air Gap ET/MPH Comparo

Actually it was a Weiand Stealth vs a Holley Strip Dominator, both with a 2" 4-hole spacer, tested on the same day. The Holley was faster. But I had much more cam duration, converter and gear. While trying to optimize the Stealth, I found that the deeper plenum side liked 2-3 numbers bigger jets...

    Thermoquad air cleaner

The base is the main concern. Many are styled like the K&N base that I had to modify. Installing only the base pan while watching & feeling for any unwanted contact with the pump and throttle arm travel can help determine any fitment issues.
  24. Locomotion

    Thermoquad air cleaner

Interference is usually from the accelerator pump arm. I've used a K&N drop base but had to beat a large dimple into it for the pump arm. Then make sure you put it back the same way every time. Check EVERYTHING carefully. Don't want the throttle lever hanging up.

TM5 versus Torker and 340 Torker

May be a newer design. So the question is... did they redesign for the spread bore or did they only change the carb pad and left the plenum and ports the same. (Like Weiand did with their Stealth and Action+Plus.)
  26. Locomotion

TM5 versus Torker and 340 Torker

I never heard of a spread bore version of a Port-O-Sonic, unless someone modified it along with the popsicle sticks. But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The Holley Strip Dominator can take either without mods and I believe it states that in the MP book. I'll have to look it all up again.
  27. Locomotion

TM5 versus Torker and 340 Torker

One thing that I didn't see anyone mention about the Offy Port-O-Sonic is that the popsicle stick mod is to fix distribution issues when using a Thermoquad. They said the Holley Strip Dominator didn't need them. Apparently using a square bore Holley carb on either one doesn't cause issues...

    68 383 with 750 carb. Runs rich

I can't really tell from the pics, but as far as the oil leak is concerned, make sure that the valve cover lips aren't touching the intake manifold. In many cases, at least on small blocks, cast valve covers and/or the intake port tops need to be relieved to avoid contact. Put the valve covers...

    68 383 with 750 carb. Runs rich

The power valve is simply an on/off switch. The # determines at what vacuum level that "switch" opens. (i.e.: 6.5") The amount of fuel flow is determined by the size of the 2 little holes under the power valve - PVCR (power valve channel restrictions) There are several theories as to what power...
