1968 Barracuda Notch - Plano, TX

Awesome build and very nice work! Those trans tunnel pics bring back memories for me, although mine didn't turn out as professional looking as yours. I need that fuel tank!

Thanks! Nice looking notch you have there, and it does good burnouts...

Sorry, it's my first try at uploading a video. Gotta turn the camera 90 degrees next time. http://youtu.be/IKdyB59l744

A nice December drive... Still got a few things to iron out, but I think I'll just enjoy it as-is for a while.

They're 225/50-16. No rubbing, but it's a bit close to the front edge of the fender on a tight turn.

The wheels are 17x11 rear and 16x7 front. They are polished Torque Thrust II. Thanks for the compliment! Scott

    '67 Barracuda finally has paint!

Thanks man! Pretty sure you can install the engine and trans like that on any A-body. Color is Lexus Matador Red Mica. It's a three stage paint and therefore a pain to spray, but it really looks good in the sun.

    '67 Barracuda finally has paint!

It's finally on the ground and out of the garage for its maiden voyage. No windshield yet, so it was a slow drive around the neighborhood. It was a success overall - I need to change the master cylinder and the Borla mufflers are VERY loud - but it sounds great and has severe traction problems...

    new notchback project

Another vote for a black 6-pack hood, but I am biased. Paint looks great, and the body looks nice and straight. Scott

We finally got the motor in today. I highly recommend installing it from underneath, although lifting the front end of the car up was nerve-wracking. There's still a lot of little things to do, but it's a great feeling to get this far. Scott

Just wanted to share this info for those using the original Magnum serpentine setup on their cars... As you probably know, the stock Magnum truck PS pump sticks out a mile and hits the battery tray. I have heard about using the PS bracket from a van that brings the pump closer to the crankshaft...

Brokengarage: 16" Torque Thrust II's are not a problem. There is at least 1/4" clearance between the caliper and the wheel at the closest point. I didn't check backspacing but it shouldn't make a difference.

    '67 Barracuda finally has paint!

Thanks! Some of your parts are on this car so I appreciate the help... I'm pretty excited about putting the drivetrain in from underneath, but it's also a bit scary knowing that the whole front end of the car will be held up by a Harbor Freight cherry picker. Hopefully I can let you know...

I haven't even bolted one up yet. I'll do it within the next few days and let you know. I can't remember the backspacing off the top of my head so I'll double check while I'm at it. Scott

Thanks! It's kind of hard to see in the pic, but it wasn't too bad fitting the air box under the dash. Vintage Air supplies some cheap brackets - I used some of them and made a few of my own. One bolts to the firewall, one to the cowl (you can see it in the pic), and two brackets bolt to the...

For those using a Quick Time bellhousing, the starter area is pretty weak on this application. I could flex the starter by hand. I imagine the bellhousing flange will eventually bend or crack in this area, because there is no provision to hold the starter snout from moving. So I added my own...

Yeah, it's to move the car around the garage. The casters used to come straight down off the bumper mounting bolts, but I moved them forward so I can roll the engine & K frame in from the side and install it from underneath. Scott

    '67 Barracuda finally has paint!

Got the engine mounted on the K-member and installed a few goodies. Hopefully I'll have the TKO600 hooked to it next weekend, if my flywheel arrives in time. Also fitted the radiator and mocked up the fan. The fan is from a Lincoln Mark VIII and pulls close to 5000cfm. The shroud is...

    '67 Barracuda finally has paint!

Got my motor! Yeah!! Picked up my engine from IMM. It was well worth the drive to deal with Brian. I suppose it's a pretty basic build for a stroker, except that I plan on running Megasquirt EFI soon (hence the injectors sticking out of the Hughes air gap intake). 485hp and 510lb...

Thanks... Brackets were about $120 from Mancini, and I got the used calipers off of ebay for roughly $200. Scott

Here's my Keisler hydraulic clutch kit. I had to knock a dent in my inner fender to get the master to fit, and also had to fab my own clutch pedal stop.

I'm almost done with the front end now, minus the power steering box that should arrive soon from Steer and Gear. I'm using AR Engineering caliper brackets 2001 Viper calipers, and late 70's C-body 11.75" rotors. The AR Engineering kit is nice quality.

    '67 Barracuda finally has paint!

Time to start on the engine... I got a great deal on an '01 5.9 Magnum years ago. The truck was totaled with 8,000mi on it and I bought the engine, trans, fuel system, and entire harness for $400. Since then I have parted out enough stuff to make a profit. That doesn't happen too often...

    '67 Barracuda finally has paint!

Hey Steve, Thanks for the compliment. I checked out your link and you've done a lot of great work! I'm not sure about fastbacks, but there are no modifications needed for a notchback rear seat when mini-tubbing. There is no folding seat mechanism on notchbacks, and the seat sits forward...

Thanks goys for all of the comments. I fabbed up seat brackets and installed the seats. They're older recovered Recaro's that I bought from a friend. I think they match the interior pretty well. One step closer! :burnout:
