    The K member will hold the weight of any big block with no problem. I would, however, investigate the availability of exhaust for the pre 67 A body. There isn't much available to fit the early narrow engine compartment.

    As bOb said, the 360 would be the most convenient swap, and actually goes in there quite easily, especially since you already have the 273 in there. I swapped a 360 in to replace the 273 in my 66 and it was a really easy fit. You can easily make more power with the 360 that you can successfully...

    Swapping a small block to big block...who's done it?

    If you decide to go small block, you might as well go to a 360 rather than a 340. The 360's are a LOT cheaper, easier to find, and you start out with an extra 20 cubes before you even get started looking for more horsepower.
