4.5" bolt pattern 7.25" rear axles

I finally found some old timer at the local tech college who says he can re-drill and it will be cheaper in the end than sending it to Moser (shipping both ways). But my wheel mounting flange is definitely like the flange on these: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=190427 So...

4.5" bolt pattern 7.25" rear axles

Sorry. I'm referring to the wheel mounting flange. There would be three large holes in it. Or are you suggesting drill one extra hole in THAT?!

4.5" bolt pattern 7.25" rear axles

Wait. I thought 7 1/4" was a c-clip axle. Why are there bolts holding in the bearing at the flange end? I thought that was a semi-floater thing? Then there would be access/balancing holes drilled in the flange as well. That wouldn't leave much meat to re-drill five new holes...

4.5" bolt pattern 7.25" rear axles

Yep - the same one is still there, but for how much longer? I had the notion for a few days that I might snag all four doors to replace those on my '69 Dart since they were pretty rust free and have side impact beams. It'll get crushed pretty soon I'm sure. Although, Chrysler's seem to hang...

Yup. PAP on Rutledge Pk...in the rain... but it felt good compared to the sauna earlier today.

4.5" bolt pattern 7.25" rear axles

Found a very similar thread: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=41818 Re-drilling/re-studding may be the way to go and I can probably get it done locally for cheaper than $65.

4.5" bolt pattern 7.25" rear axles

I already have the only good 8.25" in the area (and I've searched) that I'm saving for a '68 Barracuda. Shortening the driveshaft and purchasing another rear end starts veering off the 'budget' path I'm trying to stick with. Axle shafts at the yard are $18 a piece.

4.5" bolt pattern 7.25" rear axles

Does anyone know all the models that have 4.5" bolt pattern 7.25" rear end axles that will fit the '69 a-body? Looking for the budget way to switch my 7.25 rear from 4" sbp to 4.5" bbp to match the fronts when I do disk brake swap. I went to the yard today thinking the '74 dart with /6 and 7.25"...

    Sure grip questions

Seriously? That makes no sense for Chrysler to have to cast two different housings for what purpose? A small housing that accepts one, maybe two, gear ratios and then you need a bigger one for the others? If that's true I wish the guy that sold me this rear would have spoken up. I was talking...

    Sure grip questions

Ok new question: What does a carrier split actually mean? What dimension changes at that ratio? The differential case? The ring gear? The actual center housing? Or...?

    Sure grip questions

I think I've answered most of these questions after more research. Looking at pics, the posi in the Magnum actually seems to be an Auburn-style lsd. Idk if that's OEM or not. And from what else I've read, those are the cone/clutch mechanisms which are NOT rebuildable. Also, there is a carrier...

    Sure grip questions

I have found what appears to be a sure grip 8.25 diff in a '77 Magnum XE in pretty good shape at the local junkyard here. It uses coil springs instead of z springs for clutch pack pre-load it appears. I suppose it's the Dana-sourced Trac Lok? I'd like to swap it out for my open diff 8.25 that I...
