I posted this awhile back. It's an interesting read.

Sorry man, been working extra shifts because of all the dang wind we've been having. I'll run back over your input here and see if I can add some help. @AJ/FormS can pop in and add some insight.

What are your ported and manifold vacuum readings @ 2600 and 3000 rpm?

Were the dyno runs "full pull" or cruise speed runs? There are specific reasons for vacuum advances. Am I reading that your afvance can is pulling in 30° of advance?

Why were you dyno tuning for power with the vacuum advance connected?

&750 Quick Fuel 750 double pumper, with a choke.....

It always costs me more when I do "on the cheap".

&750 Quick Fuel 750 double pumper, with a choke.....

Years ago, I put a ZZ4 in a 66 Vette. We had a cam that really woke that 350 up. I also put the 850 from the 502s on it. Test and tune, the little car was scary fast. Buttoned her up for delivery and it wouldn't rev beyond 5200 or so and it would dog out. Back into the shop it went. Long story...

&750 Quick Fuel 750 double pumper, with a choke.....

Because I ask the obvious questions.... Is the air cleaner holding the choke closed?

    Looking for some basic mods?

Upgrade the brakes first. Then pump up the power. That is a sweet little ride.

    Just rambling....

Here's a key right there. If you put some thought into the cam, you can pull off a combo that will really work for you. You might even think about taking away from some of that low end torque and put the power band all into the mid range.

    Just rambling....

I find the best course is to determine what your performance requirements are BEFORE you turn one wrench or buy one part. A "stock" stroker build surely has it's own allure and place. God knows I have seen way too many folks caught up in the newest this or the biggest that to make the most...

So what will probably break when HP rises?

Sounds to me like the first thing to break will be your wallet.:thumbrig:

    426 stroker kit opinions?

As they say, just because you can build something, doesn't mean you should. I put a 4 inch arm in my 340 and I absolutely love it. It's in my Roadrunner right now and it flat moves the car like there was a lightweight big block in it. I have a shot at a 440, which I am seriously considering...

idle problem with long duration cam

Also don't forget to check some of the fast ramp cams made for mopars. Comp, Crane, and I think Hughes (?) have cams that take advantage of the large diameter lifters. I have a wicked dirt track custom grind from Comp and it pulls HARD. As for the vacuum advance... Get an advance can that is...

    Building a 408 stroker

Just to chip in... I stroked the 340 in my '73 Roadrunner with Ma's cast crank. I used Eagle I beam rods and Diamond pistons (a weight move). I spent something like eleven hundred bucks in getting the heads worked (and they do). The big choice was in the cam. I went with a custom solid from...
