does anyone make high compression pistons for a 170

agreed, I would check with egge. They seem to make a lot of pistons that no one else does w/o breaking it off in your arse to do it. call them 800-866-3443

A question that I am not sure how to even ask...

yes, I have seen engines clogged in this fashion, more than a few, early Chevy's mostly. If you put the oil in the engine, it is not leaking, or pouring out the tail pipe, not registering on the stick and the oil light is on. There really is no where else it could be. I would jack up the...

A question that I am not sure how to even ask...

sludge in the top end? not allowing the oil to drain back into the pan? if you can, see if the valve cover is full of oil.

What does this compression test mean?

could of had some rust in the cyl walls from sitting also. I would adjust the valves as stated, and run it a few hundred miles if possible to let the rings re-seat and then check the compression again.

    Decode this engine code?

not sure what those numbers mean.. If nothing on the pan rail, I assume it is 67 or earlier engine. And without the ABC's I would also assume it is prior to 65. So this could in fact be the original 64 engine in the car.

    Decode this engine code?

If you find no oil pan rail VIN it is likely prior to 68 (that's when that started.) Look real close at where you got the last numbers between the r and the 1 maybe a light stamping. You're looking for a letter A, B, C? Also is the R a B? A - 1965 B - 1966 C - 1967 D - 1968 etc...

    Decode this engine code?

From 68 on they were pretty consistent on using the 10k calendar code on the engine assy. 67 and prior many are stamped as is his. factory, eng, month, day. I'd venture to say 65-7 but this is pure conjecture.

    Decode this engine code?

VIN is on right side of block on the oil pan rail. casting date is on side of block exactly where on a 225 I couldn't tell you. I believe left side.

    Fluids....

ZDDP for short is Zinc. zinc adds a protection barrier between the camshaft and lifter without it it will aid in wiping out the camshaft lobes. Roller cam do not have this problem but flat tappets do. I second on the VR1 oil because it contains ZDDP. I would run DEX III in the transmission. You...
