KH SBP caliper sticking- best option?

This firm --- CalipersOnline - came recommended a number of years ago by members on this forum. If mine stick, and I can't find what I need for a better price, these may be the best alternative.

KH SBP caliper sticking- best option?

Couple of ideas you can consider. First, you could PM hemi71x, as he has been an invaluable resource for KH 4 piston parts for this forum. He at one time had a series of contacts that could rebuild your calipers, and upgrade to stainless steel sleeves for the piston bores. Also, he sells...

Strange Pilot/ hub size on 8.75 Rear drum brakes

RockAuto has the correct SBP 10" rear axle drums --- Centric 123.63044 10 inch rear 5x4 sbp are plentiful. Check under 1971 Plymouth Duster brakes. These will have the proper axle register --- if you wish to convert these to LBP, drill them.

Another disc brake conversion question, real 340 swinger

Another vote for staying with SBP and the Kelsey Hayes setup. I had a factory 1969 P 340 Swinger in R4, and it had the factory SBP discs --- worked GREAT, as long as you drive the car regularly so that the caliper piston bores don't get rusted from sitting. RockAuto has a full supply of...

    Aftermarket Brake Upgrade

Are your factory discs having issues? Rock Auto has everything for the factory K-H setup. My factory 1971 Duster 340 has the factory 4 piston calipers and discs - they work great, as long as you use the car regularly and keep the brake fluid fresh and free of moisture. The front discs...

    FYI SBP brake drums

Thank You ---- I looked up Rob's Rod Shop and it is located in Downington PA. I am curious- is there someone there that I should ask for? I need a pair badly for my 1971 340 Duster.

The Kelsey-Hayes Disk Brake Swap Thread

Can we make this thread --- which is an important reference for many who own either original cars with this factory setup, or converted cars that still use the 4" factory bolt circle --- a STICKY at the top of the page, please?

    Brake bolt pattern question

My apology to you if I came off a bit strong defending the KH 4 piston setup. You are correct that the pistons can hang if if these cars sit outside for long periods, primarily due to pitting in the piston bores. These are so simple to rebuild and parts are not expensive. As other...

    Brake bolt pattern question

WRONG on all counts --- maybe 5 years ago your comments were accurate but that all changed in the last 5 years. Rotors, pads and calipers with exchange are readily available and reasonably priced. Check Rock Auto and / or Centric for specifics. For the KH calipers 1st generation ('64.5-'66)...

70 duster 8 3/4 conversion to 4.5 drum or disk hardware

Many owners - myself included - have the original A body SBP 8 3/4" rear setup with the rare bell drums that look to be no longer available. My thoughts are I would consider contacting Doctor Diff - Cass - who is the Mopar guy - when it comes to A body SBP 8 3/4" alternatives, including rear...

    Not So Power Brakes, Help!

+1 If you insist in sticking with the booster, I had a guy who goes by Booster Dewey rebuild one back in 1999 and the job was superb. Google him or ask a member from Oregon about Booster Dewey. But A bodies do not need and work better without - power brakes.

    Best Brakes for Buck

The OEM stuff is great if you don't have to replace all the parts (other than the knuckles), in which case you will spending $$$ for replacement parts. Keep in mind - you must factor the expense of new wheels with the 4.5" BP, unless you already have those. When you do the conversion the...

    Switching to Kelsey Hayes setup

The factory 8.75" rear axle setup specified the 10" x 1.75" rear brakes. The factory 8.75" rear was factory standard equipment on all factory 340 equipped cars until 1973 when Abodies moved to the LBP. The factory specified the 10" x 1.75" rear brakes for 1971 and 1972 340 cars, that DID...

R1 Concept rotors for KH setup

R1 Concept rotors for KH setup

The Centric rotors come in several grades, including factory spec. performance and premium. For best longevity and performance, the Premium works best. The basic Centric is so cheap now (~$20 each) - you can't lose. Someone mentioned in this thread that you can get the softer brake...

R1 Concept rotors for KH setup

Is it worth replacing Kelsey Hayes 4 piston

The only performance change you will see using those SSBC calipers is a severe WALLET weight loss. The disc brake effective swept area is the SAME - so you will not improve your braking stopping distance, just swapping in the SSBC calipers. But you will lighten your wallet!

    sbp 8 3/4" drum size?

I agree with this assessment. My factory 1971 Duster 340 has the factory 8 3/4 with the factory Abody 10" X 1.75" rear brake setup. Centric had the 10" x 1.75 " replacement drums available last year - check around on Rock Auto, ebay and the like, if you seek replacement rear drums.
