    My New Garage

If you’re referring to me, I’m currently taking applications for car washers and test drivers. Must have manual shift experience. Still no takers….wonder why? And if you’re referring to my garage, I always try to make things a esthetically pleasing to the eye, and match the house. It really...

    My New Garage

It’s cozy to be sure, but what better way to work on your car than to have a space that’s just for your car. No tractors, lawnmowers patio furniture, or other stuff to clutter up the place. It’s true they’re never big enough, but in my world, big brings on the junk. I currently have 2 households...

    Floor Coatings Questions

Yes I did. Acid washed it, rinsed it down like a madman, let it dry for a couple days. I did it exactly according to the directions. To the subject at hand, I work in my garage, and don’t baby the floor, it’s not a showroom. However, if I were to have the same floor as my neighbor has, there...

    Floor Coatings Questions

Don’t use the stuff from HD or Lowes, it will not hold up to jack stands, dragging things across it, and such the like. Mine was tore up in less than a few years using the $400 stuff from HD. My neighbor had his shot peen blasted, and epoxied and sanded, Cody him about $1600, but it’s wearing...

    any blacksmiths on the line?

It’s so nice to see a fine young man using his hands, his mind, his imagination, and his heart, to learn a craft that will serve him a lifetime. I applaud him for following his heart and doing something not many folks can do. I’ll bet he becomes one heck of a blacksmith too, it’ll be nice to...

    any blacksmiths on the line?

When Uli came to visit a couple years ago, he and his wife stopped at our house and stayed a couple days. I was trying to think of things we could do while he was here, so I took him for a blacksmithing lesson with my buddy James Roth at his forge. Let’s just say that we all had a great day, Uli...

Need advice on a car I’m looking at

If you buy it, you can be instant best friends with my neighbor Bill2, he loves old Wagoneers. He completely rebuilt his, which was nice already, but now has a mean *** 340 in it, but looks bone stock. There’s another one I see on my way to a job in the city, over Christmas they had it all...

    Does anyone remember these?

How about this shirt that was mine when I was a kid? I had Nella put it on when she was just a sprout, because it would fit her. My grandpa was a Kendall oil rep, and we were always adorned with Kendall stuff. It’s obviously older than the plastic jug oil bottles we use today. As a matter of...

Planning a shop build, any suggestions?

the trusses of a pole barn are usually 4’ on center, with some of the higher end barns at 8’ on center. That’s a mighty big span for insulating the ceiling.

Planning a shop build, any suggestions?

you will need 12’ sidewalls then. Pole arms are nice because they’re cheaper, but much harder to insulate because every span is waaay to big to insulate.

    DASH STAND

Oh, could I use one of those! I have about 6 dashes here to work on, maybe I should make me one too. Thanks for sharing, it’s a great piece for sure!

    Guitar processor noise...? BZZZZZZ!

Some amps have a reverse polarity ground switch, if it does try clicking the other way. Also, if you can, flip the 2 prong adapter and plug it in the other way, I had an old light rack with wonky wiring that would shock you unless all of the lights were plugged in the “right” way. does the buzz...

    Gantry

my hand winch lifted up the entire car while using the gantry. I never doubt the power of the hand winch. And of course, I have an overhead crane and a chain fall in my shop.

    Gantry

Found this old gantry in the weeds while I was picking up some cars. It’s old, home built, the bolts are loose and it’s missing a wheel. But, it jacked up every car I removed from there without a problem. It’s still there in the weeds, I might go back and pick it up, but I might need it again...

    Anyone lay their own concrete?

I did this in 3 sections, with a little help from a couple friends. It’s 28x36, and I’ve been helping my neighbor on pours when he is short handed. I try to barter everything I can, I usually spend my $$ on materials, have a couple buddies come when they can and pay them $100 a day, and give...

    Barn Pictures

Yep, as I figured, it’s too small already, but aren’t they all. Nice looking little nest you got there, I think it’ll work out just fine! I did much the same as you, built it all by myself. Had some friends help when I needed it, but they mostly just came for the day and left. I don’t mind, I’m...

What I learned about drilling concrete

I have a Bosch, got it from my neighbor. It practically drills the holes all by itself, and I do a lot of concrete drilling. A guy I work with has an old Milwaukee, it’s slow, heavy and greasy as all heck. Ever since the Bosch showed up, that old Milwaukee has been relegated to the has been...

    Radiant Barrier Insulation

Sanded plywood is usually BC or AC fir, depending on the quality of the sanded side. I don’t believe they sand CFC at all. And, when using plywood, you gotta make sure that you are buying at least 5 ply, the 3 ply 3/8” and 1/2” is no better than junk. They used to use the 3 ply 1/2” on roofs...

    Radiant Barrier Insulation

If you don’t have a water problem, where the pink stuff can get wet, it’s probably your best bet. It works, it’s relatively inexpensive, and goes up pretty quick and easy.
  23. cosgig

    Radiant Barrier Insulation

That foil roll is not “insulation” per se. First, I would have to be air tight to make any difference at all, it has no warming capabilities. The pink stuff works by taking the inevitable flow of air through a “loose” structure, and warming it by forcing it to pass through the pink layer...

    HF sandblaster

Wait until the light switch goes out and you try to source the parts to fix it. HF stocks nothing for it, so I had to mount a tube shop light inside and ditch the crappy light it had.

    Ceiling mount heater

I just hung the same Max Heater in a job where the size was 28x36. It not only heats the garage very well, but it also heats most of the addition upstairs when the door is left open. The sidewalls of the garage are 10’, and it and the addition upstairs are well insulated. It is mounted directly...

    Cordless drill/driver/impact for dummies!

Ive had the Makita 18v stuff for about 10 years now. The batteries started to get tired about 3 years ago, which just mesns they don’t last as long, but I use my stuff every day, all day, so I would recommend them. I am going to switch to Milwaukee tho, only because I have a Milwaukee radio and...

Welder advice - where to start

I’ve actually heard nothing but good things about the Eastwood 110 mig welder in the $337 price point, it’s gas or flux core, and for floorpans and body panels would probably be the best machine for the money. You can always step up to a bigger welder from one of the big 3, but the Eastwood unit...

How to lift drywall for ceiling up onto a scaffold?

Still have to get the drywall up there, and then on the jack while it's on a section of scaffolding! That is not going to be easy! I'm on scaffolding all the time, and handling material up there with a lift in your way doesn't sound like my kind of fun!
