340 exhaust heat shield needed for Van's to repop.

He showed me the piece, it was either already in production, or he was ready to pop them out. He was just asking me what price I would pay for them, and if his target price was too high. I believe his target price was $189, at the time I thought that was pretty high for essentially what is...

340 exhaust heat shield needed for Van's to repop.

My buddy Tom Weidman was repopping these about 5 years ago. He worked for Mancini and was trying to get them to stock them. He showed me the prototype, but I’ve not seen them for sale….ever. Wonder what happened?

    64 barracuda 273

You’d be well served using Doug’s Headers or TTI’s on anything you put back in the engine bay. Otherwise that 4bbl will be pretty much a one way street.

    (Newbe) 273 to a 340 and tremec 5speed swap.

So, George, I’m always in the camp of the young guns here, I’ve had a few under my wing, and they have become great friends, and they have helped open this old dogs eyes to a lot of new tricks, and I appreciate that. But, here’s what I see going on here…. You seem to keep confusing building...

    Is there a simple/easy way to ID a 273 engine vs 318?

You asked for a quick and easy way to determine if it’s a poly or an LA motor. If you want to know the displacement of the motor, I already posted to look at the front of the motor below the head on the drivers side. It will have a letter year stamp along with the displacement. If you want more...

    Is there a simple/easy way to ID a 273 engine vs 318?

LA engines have 5 bolt valve covers, polys do not.

    value of parts

Just an FYI, there is no such animal as a 64 273 HP motor, that didn’t come out until 65. Check the front pad under the drivers side head. 64 would have no letter date stamp, 65 would have an “A” then the displacement, 66 would be “B”, and so on.

Yep^^^^^. Either timing tape and your existing pointer, or get the later style cover.

Rare Dodge Dart GT? Which engine is this?

Could also pop one of the valve covers and see if it has the adjustable rockers that all 273 engines had. But, I would clean off that pad on the front drivers side block, just under the head, and get the numbers there. You can rule out a 64/65 engine by simply looking at the intake bolts, a 1/2”...

    273, or 318?

There are no numbers to match in a 67 car. Numbering the block with the cars VIN didn’t start until the middle of 68, and across the board in 69. That being said, if the cylinders need to be bored to correct one cylinder, you will have no choice but to use aftermarket pistons for a 273 with an...

    Six Pack Carbs?

Watch out when buying any used 6bbl carbs. Most all of them are pieced together units that probably have some damage. Lots of the old carbs you see for sale have warped bowls and housings from over tightening the bowls. If I were buying, I would contact Scott Harms or Chicago Carburetor and get...

    Six Pack Carbs?

I don’t believe you can use anything on the outboards but original 6bbl style carbs, not sure about the center carb, but I’m pretty sure that is also unique to the setup. I also hope you have some decent knowledge on how to set up a 6 bbl system, they are pretty finicky u til you learn how to...

    273 question

Here in Michigan, I just sent Rich’s motor to my engine guy. For $3200 the entire motor was rebuilt, and that’s including all the parts except the cam, which Rich ordered and took there. This was a 273 Commando rebuild, where the custom pistons were $900, and the rings for them were almost $800...

Stock 360 Upgrades for Crusher Cuda?

Spitfires are not fenderwell headers, they are stubby headers that terminate above the torsion bar, not even underchassis. I have one of the first sets directly from Harold, and have been running them for years. Not the best header, but better than manifolds. .

    What IS THIS STUFF?

    340 crank..junk or saveable?

that’s not a chunk missing, it’s the rough edge of the weight. You can see on the one next to it that it is sort of ramped to a ledge, the one next to it going the other way. I suppose it could be cleaned up, but may change the balance if you did.
