    my original 340 out of the demon also has the forged crank. I also have a extra crank and pistons out of a 69 motor. Any difference in the 2? I know the earlier 340 s had the higher compression ratio.

    Hate to say it, but the heads will not identify if it is a 340. Its hard to find a 30 year old motor that hasn't bean altered or rebuilt. My 340 has 360 heads. Best bet grab a small wire brush and a can of degreaser. Not fun, but it won't take that long. And best of all you will know for...

    Engine installation

    On my 72 demon using the leveler, it all went in even with the hood still on. I also had the front tires on a set of ramps. Kept the rears on the ground. Too afraid of the car flattening my already tooo thin body some more! Also pulled entire dist, just out of fear of breaking that too.

    I believe the standard for dodge is 40 in lbs. My haynes book says 80. I have never actually used a torque wrench on mine. First things first. Make sure your covers aren't bent up. Clean is very important! Scrape any old gasket material. Wipe with rag, then use some cleaner or acetone...

    AND don't overtighten them! Thats probably the most common leak problem for valve covers. :wink:
