318 build #2 "cost minded" for the '74 Duster

I had the same issue on my 318. Just changed the one that was on that lobe when I did my cam swap. The rest cleaned up and felt fine. 11k miles so far and no noises or issues.

    V8 (5.2) swapping a van

I’ve had both a 94 1500 3.9 shorty work van, had a 3 speed auto and 3.91 gear. That thing would run. Then I got a 98 5.2 regular size 1500 work van and it ran pretty well but I think the 3.9 would have gotten the jump. Fuel mileage was the same. Same amount of cargo.

Yes it’s ribbed and came directly from a hemi serpentine setup. Bolted up like stock.

Today, dollar for dollar, is the 318 faster than the 340 ???

I like a 318! My duster which is on here ran high 14s at 93. I dynoed it at the shop the day I bought it 22yrs ago and it made 175 whp. I just installed a magnum 318 in this dakota and it feels like a weak baby sister. Thinking either it’s wore out or I have the fuel sync way off, replacing...

Redemption* Low Dollar 318 getting it's chance

When I first put my duster together it was 318, 3:91 gear. I was used to running 1/8 mile then one night I took it to the quarter mile and it was floating the valves going thru the lights!! Haha good times!!!!:steering:

What engine would you build for a Ramcharger?

Use what you have. That’s the best KISS solution. Everyone has an opinion and unlimited checkbook when it’s not there money.

What engine would you build for a Ramcharger?

My vote is the 88 318. Roller cam and good factory head. Add some magnum manifolds. Everything will be plug and play with minimal effort and money. The gear and large tire helps with the mileage. My 91 318 d150 with 3:55 gear gets 12-13.

So it’s not a LA after All?

Probably an 89 judging by the tbi. I believe that started in 88. My 87 ram had a carb, my 89 had the tbi.

What is involved in replacing a 5.2 with a 5.9

Ecu is the same, program is different but it will run just fine with the 318 computer. We’ve done it before.

Anyone else using MegaSquirt on a LA motor?

EFI source sells a plug and play gold box for the hemi. Even has a start up tune.

Anyone else using MegaSquirt on a LA motor?

For those interested in the MS stuff. Matt at DIY auto tune told me the microsquirt/MS2 has the provision for factory crank and cam wheels. This may be an option for some.

360 magnum. 1 piston lower in cylinder??

I think you will be fine, wouldnt worry about the crank, the rod was the weak link as you see.

360 magnum. 1 piston lower in cylinder??

A stuck injector would cause a hydrolock situation.

    Felt doughnut on balancer

The whole kit is fairly cheap at advance auto. I think it was $15 after my speed perks coupon.

Time will tell with it. Truck only gets 7-10k a year so it should last till I pop this engine.

    Felt doughnut on balancer

Or at least the newer magnum stuff. I mean there are no less than 6 bolts that hold the ac/alternator bracket and they have to be installed in a certain sequence. Or on the power steering bracket that has to be installed AFTER you install the balancer! Ask me how I know!!!
