    Canton oil pan ?

I have a Canton pan on my 67 Barracuda....not a fan coming from a Milodon. I had to cut a rather large notch out of my K-frame to make it fit (passenger side front corner), and it hangs lower than my old Milodon pan. 1 positive note, it did clear my headers just fine without shaping.

Am I an idiot for wanting to boost a high compression 318?

Having had a warmed up 318 in my Barracuda when I lived in Colorado (over 20 years ago)....I can tell you that you are probably no where close to 320hp right now. If you think I'm wrong, take it to Bandimere Speedway and see what it runs.....if it runs 14's or better then I'm wrong. My guess...

    Match this 500hp/500lb-ft Combo?

I would not worry too much about the exhaust flow. My ported Edelbrocks (by Ryan Johnson back in the day) look kinda week on the exhaust side (197 @ 0.600), but they flow 293 @ 0.600 on the intake. I remember thinking that my flow numbers didn't look as good as some others, had me a little...

    Oil pump/stud interferance

A couple of engines ago I took the time to cut the stud down, used a 12 point nut (also cut down) and clearance the pump with a grinder....it worked, but there was not a lot of the nut left to torque properly (was doable, but a pain). The last engine that I built for my car I just picked up a...

    Cam / Compression Ratio

Every engine I built for my car I planned thoroughly with the end result as my guide....for example, my current engine I wanted to be able to run at least 10.4 in the 1/4 mile in the heat of summer so I could comfortably run a 10.5 index class at the local track. This goal dictated what parts I...

    Clearancing Pushrod Holes

Depending on the solid roller spring pressures you will be using, you may not need anything bigger than a good 5/16 wall push rod. I would consult Smith Brothers with your specs to see if it is needed/required. I say that because you may not need to clearance the heads with a 5/16 push rod (I...

    318 connecting rods

Scat I-beams...they are inexpensive, light weight, and can handle quite a bit of HP (I believe they are rated for 650hp), and they come with ARP rod bolts. I have them in my low 10 second car and they work just fine.

    3 engines, 3 intakes

I would put the Airgap on the 360, leave the 416 with the M1 (since you have it), and put a Victor on the 340 since it is mostly strip. If money is a problem then sell the 6pack to fund the Victor (personally I would put a Victor on the 416 too, if money was not an issue). Edit: I use a...

    Cooler intake manifold

Hey Brooks, I think you and Rumble are saying the same thing, there was just a key word missing from your post. Salt will lower the temperature of ICE water (not plain water). I'm assuming that was what you meant, it just didn't make it through the keyboard into your post. Rumble is...

    Cooler intake manifold

Sorry, but this statement is very misleading. Nitrous oxide actually takes part in the combustion reaction, it is not just cooling (although that is an added benefit at about -127°F). I forget the exact temp, but somewhere around 570°F the nitrous molecule breaks down, releasing the oxygen...

    Ring Gap

That gap sounds about right for a hyper piston....but that is just from memory of what I have read in the past. Like others said, check with the piston manufacture to see what they recommend.

    Question on port matching

I will add, all 3 of my Edelbrock intakes (RPM, RPM Air-Gap, Victor) had MAJOR core shift....I had to go ham with the grinder to get the ports in the same ball park as the heads. Just my 2 cents. Edit: I really like how the Edelbrock intakes perform, but the QC is lacking.

Stroke with only Pistons and Crank?

I've built 2 strokers for my car, both used Scat I-beams, and neither needed any Mallory to balance. The first stroker I had balanced at a local shop after I purchased parts individually (Forged Eagle crank, Scat I-beams, Diamond forged pistons). That engine ran great (high to mid 10's). The...

What kind of documentation for used engine would satisfy you?

Engine on a pallet would get an "engine core" price in my book....but I'm a VERY skeptical person. The only way I would pay more is if it was totally disassembled so I could inspect everything....then the sum of parts might be worth more depending on what is there (just my 2 cents).

What camshaft spec for 425 hp

Funny, I actually did something similar years ago because I was coming from a big block build that didn't pan out and I needed a new trans for my 318/904 combo. I pulled my 904 and put in a used 727 with the converter that I had already purchased for the big block (I was pinching penny's at the...

What camshaft spec for 425 hp

Ooooh, bummer....Just FYI, switching to the 727 from a 904 will slow the car down some (1-3 tenths of a second from what I understand). Not saying that you can't go fast with a 727...heck, that is what I use, and my car boogies, but when you start looking for every last bit of ET you can...

Connecting Rods needed for try his crank

For rods, Scat I-beams are hard to beat. They are are cheap, light weight, and can handle quite a bit of power. I have a set in my 408 that runs low 10's.

360 build. Is this good street build? Heads work?

As long as you are happy with it, and it does what you want it to do, then the HP numbers don't matter. If you decide to go faster, just ask....all of us yahoo's on the internet can help you spend ALL your money on speed parts, lol.

HV oil pump vs Stock oil pan

I believe that is a myth that the "HV pump will suck the pan dry". Someone debunked it a few years back, but I can't find the link....granted, I use a HV pump in my car with a 7qt pan, but only use 6 qts.

    Headers! 1969 Barracuda Notchback.

Just a side note....I took the power steering off my 67 Barracuda about 28 years ago, and have never missed it. I can still turn the wheel with 1 hand.

Struggling at high rpm above 6000

I agree with PRH, try removing the nitrous plate and see if the problem goes away. It is possible you introduced a vacuum leak with the plate, or maybe one of your solenoids is leaking.

    W2 408 Dyno results today !

I would have expected ~520 ish hp with that combo. Might just be a stingy dyno (if so, no biggie, its just a tool). Just take it to the track and see what it actually does. Those heads look like they would support 600hp if you ever decide to built the engine with that as a goal. The power...

Struggling at high rpm above 6000

Might be your ignition box. If you have a friend with a working box see if you can borrow it for a few hours to test it out. Also, I have heard stories of these boxes having issues with the rev limiter functions....try turning them off for a pass (just don't launch hard incase you snap a...

    Inquiry for cam recommendations.

Having previously had a small solid roller "street" cam in my street/race car, I will mention that a lot of the lifters don't drop right in. I spent ~5 hours in the valley of my 410 small block grinding the block for clearance. Also worth mentioning, that cam was pretty small....but it was...

    318 or 360?

I grew up in the mountains of Colorado, and had both a 318 and 360 in my Barracuda....360 all the way....you need all the torque you can get (and they cost the same to build).

    Stroker Build... maybe

I would leave as much meat in the block as you can. A friend of mine made a "426" small block (magnum), but I forget where he got the crank. Also, be sure to leave money in the budget to replace those cheap rockers with some quality rockers (Comp pro mags are the ones I use).

    Looking to buy/build 500-600 fwhp 360

LOL, most folk don't even notice! Kudos! I'm an analytical chemist, and this was just something I put in as a "title" many years ago when I ran a 360 (pump gas) with a 150 shot....it put a smile on my face every time I hit the button. I have never run nitrous on the current engine because I'm...
