    o-ringing t-stat housing

I'm going to take my thermostat housing to work and o-ring it to make a better seal. how much of an o-ring needs to protrude for proper sealing? like 1/4 of the cross sectional diameter? it's the chrome housing, and when i put it on, i sanded the bottom face with 120-grit to make a good...

    are my fans too restrictive?

INERESTING..... I just warmed the car up and adjusted the switch for the fans to come on at 200-205 and went for a ride, and now it runs 190 going down the road.....instead of creeping up and getting hotter.... so raising my fan thermostat apparently solved the problem.....we'll have to...

    are my fans too restrictive?

oh....i'm opposite, DJV.....my electrics keep me cool at idle in traffic, but the temp soars on up when i drive the flex fan lets it get hot in traffic, but runs 180 all day going down the road so i'd just go back to the flex fan, but what's the point of buying electric fans then?

    are my fans too restrictive?

ok....here is a pic of my fans...they are 2 10" zirgo fans....this relates to my overheating problem (flex fan: hot in traffic, 180 all day moving; electric: 190 in traffic all day, hot moving) i figure maybe they're blocking too much airflow and maybe i should cut off most of the arcs...

    blocking air flow too much?

ok...update.... i did away with the shroud completely....i had taken the fans off and put the flex fan back on, and it went back to the way it was before i put the electric fans on.... now i put the fans back on without the shroud i made and it seems to idle fine without heating up over 190...

    blocking air flow too much?

yup....think i figured it out myself....I took the shroud off, and hole-sawed 6 2" holes in the 2 corners that were covered....i went for a drive and temp stayed around 200 til i got on the interstate and back off....then it went to 210-215....but didn't keep going up.... guess my shroud idea...

    blocking air flow too much?

I went for a drive tonight after getting the exhaust hooked up and the tranny filled and the cooling system flushed..... I installed 2 10" fans, rated at 1500 cfm each, and built a shroud for them to serve a few functions: a mounting place for the fan relays/fuses, a mount for the fans...

    Defroster Tubes

it cost's less and is easier to get the "mighty duct" from autozone...should be on the top shelf near the fluid additives....in green and yellow boxes...i got the right diameter in a 6' length for $13, i think...it was pretty inexpensive and worked GREAT...i may actually have enough left over...

    how much electric fan cfm??

I only have 3" clearance.....but I found a 16" thin SPAL and a 16" medium SPAL.... the thin is 2" thick, the medium is 2.5" thin: 1300 cfm....thick: 1610 cfm so..what would be better, the 1610 cfm directly to the radiator OR the 1300 cfm on a 1/2" thick shroud (that covers the whole...

    how much electric fan cfm??

I'm looking into losing the nylon fan on the car now, and just wonder how much cfm I need in a fan....my radiatior is a 26x19 aluminum, so i'll probably get a 16" fan.....also....difference in cfm for shrouded/unshrouded....i am also thinking about fabbing a shroud out of aluminum...

    cooling ?

I used a Jeg's 26x19 "ford style" universal radiator. nice radiator, but you have to TIG your own mounts on....i was going to use homemade brackets with rubber top and bottom if i hadn't TIGged some brackets on it. it was 169.99

    fittings in aluminum WP housing

I know it's a good idea to use never-seize on bolts, so i assume i need to use some on the heater hose fittings and temp sending unit? well...that's brass so maybe not.....

questions about new aluminum pump housing installation

Got my aluminum housing and pump today....got to puting it on, and accidentally separated the motor plate from the block. I used the gaskets between the plate and block, and just RTV between the housing and the plate....is this ok??? also, the mancini housing has in/out holes for the heater...
