    magnum cracked heads

Rusty is correct, I have a 99 Dakota with a 5.2. Last year it starts missing. #6 had 15lbs compression. Pulled heads off, crack between valves and burnt exhaust valve. Hard to say how long it was cracked but my guess is it didn’t just happen. It was cracked for a while and got worse.

A slip yoke would be best way to measure, I have seen some online charts with driveshaft lengths with various motor/trans and rear combos also.

    Couple of questions ...

On your converter, that looks like a balance weight for the converter itself, not an external balance for the engine, those are welded on the flex plate side. On your water pump/timing cover, up until 1969 the small blocks were driver side water pump inlet and cast iron water pump, 1970 and...

Swapped the LA for a magnum setup

Will be interesting to see how it runs, I was thinking of putting together something similar while I freshen up the 340 in my car.

    1974 Dodge Dart Magnum Swap

That sure sounds like drive line to me. Did you try taking drive shaft off and turn 180 and bolt back on? I have had the same thing happen after changing gears. Shook bad at 55-60, rotated drive shaft 180 and it stopped.

    1974 Dodge Dart Magnum Swap

If it is vibrating under power while driving look at the driveshaft/u joints. Make sure driveshaft still has weights on it and u joints are tight. Since it got worse after a gear swap i would swap the driveshaft 180 degrees on the rear yoke and see if it gets better, sometimes tolerances stack...

    1974 Dodge Dart Magnum Swap

Yes, i agree, that balancer saves a lot of headaches being able to buy one to cover all the stock small block chryslers. Starting in 2000 the 5.9 magnum used a 1 piece pulley/balancer set up, that is the only difference between the older vs newer, so you believe what you want, there is no...

    1974 Dodge Dart Magnum Swap

I see, it was your 408 stroker that had a vibration. That is a whole new rotating assembly and requires its own balance be it internal or external. No parts off the original 360 magnum are going to work with that, they are meant to balance the weight of the 360 rotating assembly only. Maybe...

    1974 Dodge Dart Magnum Swap

"And, as I stated, early 5.9 EXTERNAL Balanced, Later 5.9 Internal balanced. Ask me how I know?? See above:)" Ok I will ask how you know? Because none were internally balanced from the factory. Although the pre-Magnum ('71-'92) and Magnum versions of the 360/5.9 are both externally balanced...

Magnum Swap column vs. console shift

Here is a link to putting an 46RH in an Ebody, looks like this cross member was fabbed. I thought I saw some where someone making the crossmember but it may have been the one in this link, it sure looks nice. 727 to A518 swap – a novice guide

Magnum Swap column vs. console shift

You can google some 46rh swaps and it details what was cut and how to change the rear mount of the trans. I think someone was making a cross member at one time. Might be a little tighter in a 64 A body but well worth it when its done.

Magnum Swap column vs. console shift

The 46rh and 46re are basically a 727 with overdrive on the tailshaft. Swap over the shift lever from your 727 onto the OD trans should be all you need to do. Also the trans cooler lines are bigger than the old stuff, 3/8 IIRC

    5.2 magnum swap--which gasket do I need?

Found this on another site, "A 5.2 Magnum pan gasket is basically the same as a 5.9 Magnum pan gasket. They are a different part number but it is really hard to see the difference. Basically just two little nubs where the rear seal meets the rails. Not even sure why they bothered creating a...

    5.2 magnum swap--which gasket do I need?

You are correct, pans are the same on magnums, gaskets are not. The 5.2 magnum has the bigger rear main just like the 5.9 magnum, for what ever the reason the gaskets are not the same, still not sure the difference but I know its not because it has the LA 5.2 style rear main. So a 273, 318...

    5.2 magnum swap--which gasket do I need?

If you are putting an LA pan on a magnum, you need an LA 360 gasket, unless you want a leak. The pans on magnums are all the same, 5.2 or 5.9. The gaskets are different, my guess it was to use one pan on both 5.2 and 5.9.

What manual transmissions were behind the magnums and do they fit into my car

The manual trans for the magnums were all from trucks, NV4500 behind the 360 and NV3500 behind 318's. Gm used the same trans in there trucks as well. Trans tunnel would definitely need to be modded to fit one for sure, it is big.

    What Fuel Pump?

A stock mechanical pump should work fine, I think the eddy carbs are more sensitive to fuel pressure than a holley type carb, intake should not matter in relation to fuel pressure on a carbed engine

Will this parts combination work for a magnum swap?

It should, some plug in ends or sensor ends may have changed from 95 360 to a 96, but its easy enough to change a sensor to the 95 version. As far as running the 5.9 with a 5.2 computer, that one I cant answer for sure.

That's sucks! Used to hear lots of horror stories of MP crate motors put together missing parts. One I recall was a forgotten rod bearing in a 360 crate.
