    Easy (?) OD Auto Install

Oh for sure. Yeah I’d be going that route too with that many miles.

    Easy (?) OD Auto Install

Man, yeah that’s a lot. And well over my head. I drive under 1,000 miles a year. So the cost isn’t a big factor. Just don’t enjoy 3k+ rpms on the highway lol

    Easy (?) OD Auto Install

Man, I would have never even thought the timing would be an issue. I have much to study up on. Thanks!

    Easy (?) OD Auto Install

Just went from a 7.25 with 2.76s to an 8.25 with 3.92s this winter. Drove 140 miles today and I came on here looking for overdrive ideas lol. Thanks for the info guys. Maybe get the gears in my head churning.

    8.25 pinion snubber?

Ha that’s how these things go it seems! We’ve been in the teens and single digits so I have no motivation to get on that cold garage floor to swap in the rear. I have 14s and also 15s. Will be interesting if they act differently. I never would have thought doing what you’re doing would cause...

    8.25 pinion snubber?

so the adjustable one didn’t stop the wheel hop? What kind of tires and springs you running?

I may be interested. I’d like to see what options there are for these. Sending pm

    8.25 pinion snubber?

Getting ready to swap out my 7.25 in favor of an 8.25. Looks like it has the bracket for a pinion snubber but not the bumper. I’ve seen they make an adjustable one for 8.75s, but there seems to be little info on the 8.25. What are you all running?

    The 8 1/4 thread

no hate here. I planned to go that route till I stumbled upon an 8.25 rebuilt and ready to go for a good price. Wasn’t worth fooling with the 8.8 at that point for me. Good luck with the swap, seems guys are happy with them!

    7.25" Gear change HELP

Thanks for the follow up on this HotRod777. I have a 7.25 and have considered a swap from the 2.76 gears. I don't race the car and I've got a mild 318 so I have considered just a gear swap and hoping it works. As opposed to rear end swap, because then it would be big bolt pattern, leafsprings...

    The 8 1/4 thread

Ok, so I scanned this and did not see this. Correct me if I'm wrong. This thread is talking about the carriers basically, not the entire housing? Reason I ask is I recently saw a 98 Cherokee 8.25 rear end with 3.55s for sale not too far away. Drum brakes. Seeing if it would just require perch...

No I do not. But there is a machinist not too far from my house that I'm sure could do it for cheap.

    The 8 1/4 thread

K, I will have to reread the thread. It'll probably be a while before I get to it anyway, just trying to do homework beforehand. Thanks for the help guys!

    The 8 1/4 thread

Wow, ok strange. I must have missed that when reading through the thread. So an 8.25 and Dana 35 are interchangeable if it is Trak Lok, but not if it is sure grip? So I need a Trak Lok?

    The 8 1/4 thread

So based on what I read, I should have a 27 spline set up and can use the pre 94ish Dakota diff setup without having to do any modifications?

    The 8 1/4 thread

Good news (I think?!?!). Looks like my ratio is 2.71. So this means I can put 3.55s in etc? Here are some pics. It still looks offset. Did I get a funky one or what? On the ring gear is stamped: 2952928 2.71 137 ?PP MMS 291 HT02 HELIXTORM.

    The 8 1/4 thread

Right, I bought an 8.25. I have a 7.25 in the car now and an 8.25 on jackstands. Yep, 1 wheel peel. Probably 3.55s since I drive it and am trying to get it back to where I can drive it a couple times a week. Also want to hit 14s with the 318. Best is a 15.22. Blew the trans and put in a stall...

    The 8 1/4 thread

Gotcha, so he did the 2.45 gear? Shucks. I'm wanting to go from my 7&1/4 rear with 2.76s to something between a 3.55 and a 3.91. Was slow enough off the line before a stall, now it's even worse lol. I'm 99% sure my casting number is 2852905. So I just want to clarify, if mine is indeed the...

    The 8 1/4 thread

Ok just read the thread in its entirety. Lots of good information. So it looks like memike has the offset rear end and he was able to go with a shorter gear (3.55 I believe) by adding a spacer? And he could not go with sure grip/trac lock as well? So if mine is indeed the offset, then I can...

    The 8 1/4 thread

Ok great. Yeah I will flip it over and get a shot and then see if I can find the ratio. If it's the off centered one I can't swap out the diff and gears from a Dakota, can I? :/

Thanks to Halifax for the direction to come look at this thread. I have read the first page and then some. I just want to make sure I understand my rear axle. Here are the pics. I was told it came out of a 74. I did not count teeth but the pinion made 2.75 or so rotations for every one rotation...
