So I feel stupid guys but I pulled out the rubber from the socket and it slipped right onto the plugs. Now all I need to do is get a 7/8 wrench I can cut down and I can come at the socket from under the pipe!

Yeah this is my first encounter with headers. I’ve ran manifolds the last 15 years but picked up new in box from the 90s Hedman for almost nothing. Now paying the price lol.

Oh gotcha, I appreciate it. I just honestly assumed any 68-70 340 part was superior to 72. Or is the TQ and intake in 72 really good? Part of me wants to make a 340 that can run in fast so use all 72 parts. Part of me just wants to use any stock looking part that makes the best combo. IE JGC...

I had considered going that route but if I do the hi po manifolds it’s because I’m wanting to do FAST racing. Wish my car was a 70 lol. Would be super sleeper doing 340 driver side and JGC on passenger side though. And cheaper!

Also curious how it has held up.

I’d be curious to see how they’d do on headers. I did some Bill Hirsch a few years ago on manifolds and they have some flaking.

I have some manifold gray por15 but decided to go with headers. You’ve used it on headers? How is it holding up?

Sorry I should have clarified. I was thinking of opening them up to gasket match and didn’t know if that would be an issue with the little exhaust ports.

That makes sense. my 318 manifolds have no room to port to a gasket match. I’m looking at porting some 302 heads and didn’t know if porting the exhaust side of the head would be an issue if I’m running small manifolds.

I was considering getting the hi po manifolds for my 72 318 till I read this just to confirm the passenger side exit was the same as my 318 lol. Thanks for the info guys.

Ok I appreciate the lookout though. Your posts on the 318 have been insightful BTW. Eventually I'm going to try and do more performance to this thing. Hidden HEI this winter is in the plan. Headers will have to wait.
