1968 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback (old school build with a new school feel)

I did my initial start up with the Sniper EFI. It ran really well for about 10 seconds while the lifters pumped up. Then a valve lock came loose (my own fault). I shut it off pretty quick, but still made a mark on the piston and bent the valve. The piston is useable but had to pull the head...

Got the new fuel injection tank in, Holley Sniper EFI on, and just about wired up. Just waiting on the Hyperspark Distributor from Holley. They are a real pain in the *** to get parts from, very dishonest on their shipping times.

I definitely will. I have not had time because my wife wanted a deck on the pool. I told her no, I have a car to build..... I then went out and put a deck on the pool.

Also pulled the dash bezel out and hit it with some plastic, high bonding primer, and then some single stage matte black. It is still a little wet in the pic, but dried just as I wanted:

I just bought a 3/4" 36 spline, 3/4" DD generic universal online. I then had a round coupler with an attached 3/4" DD shaft. Cut length to fit and slid the round over the stock Mopar column, welded it to the stock shaft, and slid it all together.

I got the new 16:1 manual power steering done. It was pretty easy to convert with the engine out:

I finally blew up the 318 that was in the car. time to get the engine bay water blasted and repainted before the new engine goes in.

My oil pump started failing from time to time on the stock 318, so I had to startt getting my stroker done.

I already planned ahead with a phenolic resin 1" spacer. I appreciate the heads up.

That was part of my decision, planning a Sniper EFI for my next mod.

I appreciate the info and opinions. I built the engine on a "budget". As cast Eddy heads, cast stroker crank, and Hypereutectic pistons. I probably will not switch cams at this point, so we will see how it works with the set up.

1968 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback (old school build with a new school feel)

I agree, but it is just a fun street car engine. I am running 3.73 gears and 2400-2600 stall converter. I went for a bit more of a torque cam and do not plan on being over 400 HP. I have always been told by an old timer that knows engines to pick the cam that I think that I want, and then go...

You are correct. I also read that I should have the Felpro "pre-crushed 1008 head gaskets for this head. I re did the calculations (added the head gasket CC's to the 58cc heads) using the Summit Racing calculator.

So after deciding to buy a set of Edelbrock Aluminum Magnum heads, and then calculating my measurements, this is what I am coming up with:

All the rings are measured to spec for KB Hypereutectic pistons. Bearings are all in spec on the slightly tighter side (0.0016-0.0019 mains), lathered in nasty, icky, snotty assembly lube. Pistons are all installed, crank rotates nicely and getting ready for the next step:

1968 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback (old school build with a new school feel)

I started assembling the 408 Stroker today. I am running full groove main bearings to give a constant feed of oil to the rods. Main bearing clearances ranged from .0016-.0019". I have nice sore fingers after installing 16 spiral locks without a tool, but all the floating pins and rods are...
