    Ailing engine (Updated after teardown)

the clean piston tops and chamber are 100% sucking water. the hi psi is probably from oil. good catch before things went all brown and round on ya. i agree on cometics if you can get them, but if the lead time is unreasonable i don't see why you couldn't just snap another set of felpros in...

ah matey dan! ye back on the rum again and too much sun? c'mon man, we don't need to relitigate the topic that we so recently covered in the past! anyway, lovely maneuver totally avoiding the point and changing the subject. hoist the main sail and tack into the wind! arrr!

dan, not to be rude or disrespectful but your insistence that you have "knowledge about cars" runs entirely contradictory to a lot of the statements you make. let's remember some hits such as: "i don't use a torque wrench" and "avanti's are muscle cars" from your seminal album "DTM summer jams...

Blue pill or red pill = 675 or 920

bro, those 920's look tore up from the floor up. if you wanna keep it on a beer budget, snap on those 675's and ship it. there's no telling what could be wrong with those 920's-- janky guides, wasted seats, bad deck, cracked, and on and on. i wouldn't run those without a hot tank, mag check...

Best intake manifold and carburetor for a 273

eddy performer with a 500~625 carter/eddy afb or AVS 2 (and that's performer, not RPM or air gap) if you could find one and don't mind splashing the cash, eddy LD4-B would be awesome. **double check that you have the later heads** early units had a different bolt angle and take a specific...

    Sanden A/C Compressor to fit a 273

that's a possibility, and yeah the bracket set up from late 70's thru 91ish would work with a little futzing about. the support struts attach to the intake manifold, so you'd need an aftermarket or a stock 318/360 from that time. the alt mount is different and frequently takes a different...

dynamic compression is a function of the camshaft (valve timing). here, to save us all a lot of time is a link with an explanation Compression ratio - Wikipedia if you're looking for a specific dynamic compression ratio you build toward that by carefully selecting components to give you a...

    1973 360

they were both strippers: manual steering/brakes. both had 3.23's SG's at the time, the dart sport now has 2.71 for road tripping purposes (along with a borgeson upgrade). i've worked on both cars a fair amount over the last 10+ years, so i'm confident in saying that they're a pretty fair...

    1973 360

i think it was 70 that they didn't make the val in a 2dr? i'm not much of a betting man, but i'd go a slice of ham that a 70 dart is several hundred lbs lighter than a 74 duster/dart sport having driven and ridden in both an early 340/727 dart and a later 360/727 dart sport, the earlier car...

    1973 360

i didn't see one for dart, but it lists the valiant (so close enough) at under 3K so that's still 250+ all day without the nitty-gritty of 4spd v automatic, undcoating (+30 lb!!) or powersteering, etc.

    1973 360

do you have a source on this? the reason i'm asking is that it's common knowledge that the later cars were heavier than the earlier stuff. so i'm kinda wondering how say a 74 dart sport with a 360 would be faster than 72 340 dart when it weighs 5~700lb more.

340 Oil Priming Question First Start

it's fine. fffiiiinnnneeee. there's 60 with the drill. i mean, if you're really concerned with it, you could always get some white lith grease in the can and just aim it on in there with the little straw... the valve covers are already off anyway. then just hit the valve train with some WD...

340 Oil Priming Question First Start

this is far too much maths. just pop the rockers off and throw them on the bench and then lean on the starter till the engine bay, hood, fenders and floor are sufficiently covered in oil and hope that the starter lead didn't melt the jacket off and light off all the slick stuff.

340 Oil Priming Question First Start

they come off as an assembly. 5 bolts and the whole thing lifts off. review the FSM but take note that the torque figure for the attachment bolts is incorrect in some printings. it should be 15~17 ft/lb not the 30-something that is listed.

340 Oil Priming Question First Start

have the rocker arms been off the heads at some point recently? they need to be orientated in a specific way on assembly so that the oil feed holes in the shafts align with the ones in the head.

i see somebody hasn't been following along... bro, we're in like season three already. in this episode, a mid season cliff hanger, we get to see whether DTM gets a car this time, or comes up again with lame excuse as to why the deal didn't happen or some niggling detail about the car he didn't...

Someone needs to start re-casting 340 blocks

i don't know where you are and what machine shop rates are like, but sleeving a 318 out would rapidly approach and likely eclipse the price of a 340 block. probably be damn near the cost of an R block almost by then

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

any sheet metal work? zero-point-zero. none. zilch. nada. very minimal cutting for the 4spd hump? A-833OD granted a T5 would be "minimal-ish" but it's not mopar, and neither of those rate because Matey Dan has a peg leg and can't drive stick. after that it's 3" spinning wheel of death...

more than most, less than a lot of others. it's not about what i like. it's about what is correct for the application, what fits the budget, the overall build plan and availability. i like light, forged pistons with modern, thin ring packs. but that might not be what's on the menu, so some...
