    Route 66 Traveler's Guide by Tom Snyder ISBN-10:0-312-25417-2, is a must if you want to see ALL the original road. First half takes you east to west and the second half west to east. The most complete turn by turn manual I've ever seen.

    Stupid parts question, but...

    It seems like I read somewhere that some vehicles have two thickness pads, and the thicker pad goes on the inside. If this is accurate, and, I don't know that it is, could it be that you have both of the thicker pads on the same side of the vehicle?

    Oxalic Acid. You can buy a few pounds off of Ebay reasonably. It used to be the active ingredient in cooling system cleaner. I wouldn't take a bath in it, but you can safely put your hands in it.     Before you go, get a copy of, Route 66 Traveler's Guide and Roadside Companion by Tom Snyder, ISBN 0- 312 - 25417 - 2. www.stmartins.com. It's a very detailed turn by turn instruction manual. There's a lot more of the road still there than what a lot of people think.
