Steve at Pro American ([email protected]; 989-843-7000) makes repro Mopar cables plus he will make you any custom length you want. I had him do this for me as the original 340 cable was too long for mounting on the 440's rear carb: Imperial Services.
I did one on a Ford 302 about 40 years ago when they first came out. Great throttle response but also instant pinging. By the time I dialed in the carb and timing to minimize it, any mileage gain was negated.
Around 1982 my daily driver was a 1966 GTO 3x2. Hi-Octane gasoline had basically disappeared from the Chicago area so we were using additives (something like 104+?, etc.) which helped but accelerated needle wear especially on the center carb. I put in the Super Tomco kits with the washer style...
On my cap the old seal just pulled out over the center and then installed the new one. It's not riveted just tight around the bottom of the center where it indents in.

Only thing I've noticed different from the OEM one is the length of travel on this one is shorter so the gauge movement is quicker to full and as well to empty. So...
