    Car Weight

My 68 Barracuda weighed at two autocross events this past summer came in at 3060 with me out of the car. It’s street legal with AC. Front seats, and full carpet. The trunk divider is in place but no back seat. Last year light cast crank built slant six, 904, 8.75, four wheel disk brakes...

Up Graded - Performance Damper when do you do that?

The slant six Romac damper will not accept the normal slant six rear or front bolt on pulleys and maintain the OE belt spacing. Looking closer at side view photos of the Romac damper there is additional material (thickness of the hub) from the edges of the V to the outer edge of the hub in both...

Up Graded - Performance Damper when do you do that?

I have heard that a big block damper will fit, but have you ever seen one with a groove for a v belt. Along with AC the motor also has an alternator.

Up Graded - Performance Damper when do you do that?

Thanks again for the link to the RERA.org, interesting I am going to look closely at the Romac Dampers, a few questions on those. question 1) there are two Romac dampers for a slant six, their online info is a little confusing, depending upon which web site is visited. I have posted links to...

Up Graded - Performance Damper when do you do that?

Question(s), 1) at what point does it make good sense to move from a stock style to a genuine performance damper? and then, 2) Dampers can be elastomer, fluid or friction. Why chose one over the other? some background, my car is a 68 Barracuda with a built Slant Six, approx. 265 HP, NA, MPFI...

SCCA Tire Rack CAM Challenge at Grissom

Drove the 68 Barracuda in the CAM Challenge yesterday. This was my second autocross event. I got six runs in and was quicker on every pass. Did not get any cone penalties, which is good, but also means there is room to cut closer. Had a great time. Pushed hard on the 68 B all day and it got me...

    First Autocross

Thanks, I have only done one Autocross so I am no expert, but Grissom seems to ge a really nice facility for Autocross, space for a long track, plenty of run off room.

    First Autocross

Entered and ran the 68 Barracuda in my first SCCA Autocross event this past Sunday. The Autocross was at the Grissom Autoplex about an hour north of Indy. Ran in the CAM T class. There were 99 cars total that ran in all the classes. Including me there were 9 CAM T cars. I got six runs in, got a...

Any Interest in Road Racing Mopar?

Don’t you want the front tires to lock up before the rears. Having the rear of the car slowing more than the front will make the car want to spin.

HP gain with multi angle valve/seat

David V says most of the flow improvement possible occurs at the seat. And the gains in flow occur by improving seat angles or installing larger valves. As you move away from the seat changes in the bowl and in the port arm can still have an impact, just not as much. Having the right sized...

    Valve seat question…

Valve seats have been made of powdered metal for years. It works fine. Compressive forces like what a valve seat sees is a perfect application for powdered metal. My question is: are you using die penetrate to see the valve seat contact ring? Prussian blue or Dykem layout fluid works fine for that.

    Rocker Arm help

Installed height has to do with the distance from the bottom of the valve spring retainer and the top of the valve spring seat with the valve closed. That has little to do with over all valve length, as depending upon the valve, the keeper groove can be a different heights on the same length...

    Rocker Arm help

What is the length of the Chevy valves that your machinest installed? If they are much different in length from the stock valves that the adjustable rockers were designed to be run with things will change.

Aerodynamics & Diverting Wind Resistance ?

The Bell X1, the first plane to break the sound barrier had its shape modeled to be similar to a Browning 50 caliber bullet as it was known that particular projectile was stable at speeds above the sound barrier. So I am thinking that a BMG 50 caliber bullet is much more aerodynamic than a whale.

Aerodynamics & Diverting Wind Resistance ?

Are you referring to the late 80’s early 90’s front wheel drive Dodge Daytona’s ? While Pishta in post 99 is referring to the winged B body Dodge Daytona and Plymouth Superbirds of the early 70’s.

    Any autocrossers on here?

Posting that I have the same plan for my 68 Barracuda. Was drag race only, will still do an occasional run down the strip, but over the Covid down time I have re worked the car back into a street legal car that I plan to do SCCA autocross with. Will run in the CAM class. I went to an event this...

    Dodge to NASCAR?

Yes, initially the cars will all have electric motors from Hoover vacuum cleaners. To open things up to the eastern manufacturers there will be a move to also allowing Panasonic vacuum cleaner motors. Samsung is wanting to get in but Nascar is not ready for a Korean engine supplier.

    Dodge to NASCAR?

Don’t get me or this post wrong, I am a racing fan, but with very few exceptions, I am a follower of the lower buck open wheel midget, dirt and sprint car series. As well as the racing that I do, bracket and autocross. I really believe that the high end stuff like nascar is really just for the...

    Heads Studs vs. Head Bolts

"the screw load up at the nut and not in the threads in the block." It just does not work that way, the load applied is going to be distributed equally across the length of the bolt shaft from the under head down to the threads whether using bolts or studs. Think of a bolt as a rubber band, as...

What difference would that make? The intake port in the head is an extension of the runner in the intake manifold. There are mega differences in the length and volume of the runners in an intake manifold.

    NASCAR Mopar

And that is why I don’t watch football, they all use the same footballs, goal posts, lot of teams run the same plays. Same goes for baseball and basketball, all cookie cutter,,,all the teams playing the same sport all use the same equipment. No variety, no innovation.

    Reverse cooling

Rusty, reverse cooling puts the coolest water into the cylinder head. That should reduce combustion chamber temperature and help to reduce pinging. That would then have the potential to run more ignition advance, if what was being ran was not optimal and was being limited due to pre ignition...
