    What tranny for a 318?

    I'm putting together a 72 Dart Swinger as a daily driver. It's all new. It's a 318 that should go abt 280hp and I've used a 904. Rear tyres are 28" tall and I've got 3.89 ratio. I wanted 3.7 but didn't have any 3.7 gears around. Should be around 2950rpm @ 62 mph.

Choosing stall speed for daily driver

Std stall will be OK with that cam or one of the basic 2500 convertors will liven it a bit more. Good all rounder ratio with those tyres is 3.7

    904 floorshift linkage parts

I have to say...none of those parts look to be the same on Oz shifters except for the 19A part. All our Oz shifter parts are VERY similar to the slapstik in my 70 challenger.

    904 floorshift linkage parts

Could be the vertical rod is different on the mid 60's shifters to the early 70's ones? The consoles and appearance including the knob certainly changed.

    904 floorshift linkage parts

Info I got says part 19A is the same for 904 and 727 in Australia. Can't see the US being any different since most parts on Aussie cars are the same as US.Many of them ARE US parts.

    904 floorshift linkage parts

Got answers from an Aussie site. 19A appears to be the same part for 904 and 727. Mine's a weird box. Here's what it looks like.

    904 floorshift linkage parts

Got a 72 Dart Swinger 318/904. Converting from column to floor shift. Using an Aussie factory floorshifter and console but they are essentially the same as US stuff. Done plenty with 727s recently but been a long time since I've worked with a 904. In the pic below(from an Oz Valiant...

Any easy options for Overdrive on an RB????

You drill the oil feed hole in the mainshaft to a larger size. The std hole is ridiculously small. No wonder they suffer from starvation to the OD.

need info on a stall converter

If you can afford it don't just buy an "off the shelf" convertor. Get one made to suit your car. Then you've got real quality and you don't need to be afraid of big stalls. I've got 400hp of 440,I shift at only 5200rpm and running 4000 stall. At light throttle it drives like a std convertor.

    Cone VS Clutch?

I just spool mine for street'n'strip duties. Not much into hard cornering so i just drive it accordingly. And that means very carefully when it's raining. Don't get snow and ice here.

    7 1/4 drums fit on 8 3/4?

I've got a 72 dart Swinger 318/904 that had 7 1/4 rear with exactly the same drums as in the pic you showed. The car was a well worn , bone stock , unmolested daily driver survivor from LA so no apparent modifications.

    8 3/4" Questions

If I had a set of 741 gears with 29 spline for the pinion yoke would a 489 pinion flange fit? I know unis are different. Why I ask is I'm looking to spool a set of 3.73s in a 741 case and the only gears I can find have 29 spline whereas the std gears are 10 spline. If so,I have enough...

    8 3/4"/Green Bearing Problem

Hey ...makes me feel better I'm not the only one to run into this hassle!!! Since the chunk was already installed I just machined 80 thou off each axle. This was easier for me as I have my own substantial lathe. The 2x 80 thou was arrived at by measuring prior. All good now!!!!

    8 3/4"/Green Bearing Problem

So the centre needs to come out and dissasseble it to get the spacer out? I tapped it and it floats but seems to be secured in there somehow.

    8 3/4"/Green Bearing Problem

What I have is a custom length housing and axles supplied by somewhere in L.A. Axles are 30 spline Currie items fitted with green bearings. I set this diff up with a spooled 741 case and recently stripped the 3.55 ring and pinion. What I've been doing today is fittng up a spare 489 case...

    904 Trans Leak Help

That's a common culprit but often overlooked is the small seal between the kickdown and selector shafts. Valve body out to do them which is not that difficult. Another leak which recently had me perplexed in a 727 was a small seal on the plastic speedo cog.

    Removing Console Auto Shifter

G'day. 1st post here. I've recently acquired a 69 notchback barracuda which has just come over from California. I am trying to remove the auto shifter and console but am not familiar with how a US item is assembled. I've removed the grubscrew in the side of the chrome bit on the knob but can't...
