    Mounting an original Polyglas

I had a vintage set of M&H slicks that I wanted on some rims for a photo shoot and maybe a burnout or 2. They were 60's old but were not rotted from what I could see. The guy told me no guarantees and as soon as he put it on the tire machine to mount it, the bead ripped in a cloud of dust. He...

    Age of "new" tires

yes. I dont get it out that often and when I do, It was either a 120 mile round trip to spring fling or a drive to the Donuts car show 13 miles away and maybe a few weekend jaunts in between. Its not my daily driver for sure. It has no A/C, brakes are 1967 vintage, gets <20 mpg and the brake...

    Age of "new" tires

7 years....I may put 1000 miles on them in 7 years. Time for new ones? Just sell me some plastic Pos-a-Tractions that last 30 years.

    Tiger ride quality

Some high end suspension places have shock dynos that can run a series if tests on what your car is weight wise and spring rate, etc. Probably way overkill. Best is to just ask what everyone likes. I dont get why KYBs always get the stink eye, are they just stiff across the board?

    Opinions on new wheel color

you wont find trim rings for those deep (looking) rims. How about just running chrome lug nuts? Show off more of those yellow rims.

    Tiger ride quality

When I first drove my Barn fond 65 home, it was still wearing 1971 air-cushion bias ply tires and original 1965 shocks. It was like driving on glass, and handled like it was driving on ice! Those Bias ply tires really rode well but just didnt handle highway grooves at all. Good luck on a soft...

    Aftermarket wheels...how safe are they??

I run those on my SC400, but they are "Mitsubishi by Enkei" on the backside, off an older 16.5" Mirage.

    Aftermarket wheels...how safe are they??

All are DOT approved. Probably inspected by design and material only or sample inspected. Worried? Just run plastic rims..yeah! Radurras by Forgiato Don't think this has been tried before? Mopar did it too. The deep 5-spoke propeller looking wheels on the Dodge Shadow (IIRC) were compressed...

The cost of wheels and tires.

And those tires will need to be "replaced" after 6-8 Years weather you drive on them or not....per a few members here. Try finding 14" tires nowadays in a size beside a small truck tire.

    Home made 15 x 10 with 5 on 4 1/2 b.c. and dog dish hubcaps.

A guy on YouTube takes straps of metal and sections the rims. Lots of work, lots of big tools! That's a bad *** lathe!

I love small bolt rallye wheels - and making the most of them

14 tires are getting harder to find in any width past 215. My Mazda still takes 14's Walmart Turkish tires! $43/pc.

What a Difference a Day Makes!

I had a 2 piece driveshaft bust open on me after I was grinding on it to seperate it. I was changing flap disks then grabbed a beer and the thing just popped open like a tube of biscuit dough. We were working a manual trans onto a Toyota Tercel with a transverse engine. The trans went in on the...

What a Difference a Day Makes!

Trouble is in 10 years, some of us put 600 miles on them! Then they need to be replaced? That sucks when they are $600 a set. Someone should make a shelf stable tire for classics. F it. Solid rubber....

    CRAGAR WHEEL RESTORATION?

I'd blast them and powdercoat them gunmetal gray or something. I'm not a real fan of those heavy hoop post #17 wheels. Alot different than post #9 rims.

    Leaking tire plug repair

This was a fix at 7:30 PM on a Sunday evening. I used what I had but I never had an issue using these. I used the reamer, screw was straight in, so was the plug as you cannot make a new angle with the reamer. The (slime brand) instructions were followed: coat the plug with cement, insert 2/3 way...

    Leaking tire plug repair

Plugged a screw hole and the rope seal is leaking from within the rope itself? Weird.....do I relieve the pressure and put some more rubber cement on that and let it vulcanized? It's just barely leaking but it went from 44 psi to 35 overnight https://youtube.com/shorts/3zUa7jgj6fA?feature=share...

    Powder Coat Wheels??

Yes its DIY doable..your results will vary! Get an old oven off craigslist or some dedicated IR heat lamps. The trick is to get them blasted and then super clean of all oils so the powder lays on evenly, like an acetone rinse then clip on and dust. Put something in the bolt holes, hub flange and...

    Rookie mistake.....need help

I missed the last 12 posts so just an FYI @Sdriche Dont press them out either! You need to cut the backs off and press them out the FRONT. Or use a 7/16 swedge cutter (looks like a hole saw) and push them out the back. The designed stud hole is .*** and the swedge is like +.010 so if you press...
