    318 magnum EFI kickdown

Even the 4?RE transmissions have a kickdown cable. There is a cable that runs from the throttle body that points toward the firewall and has an adjuster at the throttle body. I would think that it's as simple as getting the kickdown lever from a newer style trans the cable and the bracket that...

    explorer 8.8 questions

You'll have to fix the shock mount on the spring plate. I just cut off part of the old plate and grafted the shock pin onto the new plate.

    Slanty, 904 issue

Well with 2.76 gears you should be at 70 at about 2500. I think optional gears were 3.23, that would put you at 71 at 3000. Grab a sunpro mini tach and see what it's really turning. I've had a 1bbl slant pegged at 120 and it sounded like the engine was seconds away from letting go. The...

360 46RE driveline swap, wont shift

Thanks for all of the replies! I know too well about getting bad "new" parts. Again, no problems here re-checking stuff. I'm getting old and have been known to overlook the simplest of things  This ended up being a little odd. I ended up going all the way back through the wiring, cleaning...

360 46RE driveline swap, wont shift

Thank you Sir, That's what I needed to know. I know I'm not the only nut job here so I know it's been done. ;) I think I just need some more info. In theory... I'd need the ABS computer, differential sensor and associated wiring? correct? Do I still need the wheel sensors? I don't think so as...

360 46RE driveline swap, wont shift

Ok, well I checked just about everything. I've verified that the trans control relay is still part of the power distribution block and is sending power to the trans. The output speed sensor is still there but the electric speedo drive unit is not applicable in this situation as the harness...

360 46RE driveline swap, wont shift

I finally got the Duster out on the road last night only to find that it wont shift. While I'm digging back through the service manual today, I figured I'd get everyone's feedback on what it could be. The driveline is a 99 Dakota 360 with the factory efi still in place, a 46RE ( 8pin plug )...

    Shifter question, dual gate shifter?

That's what I was getting at. The gate should be fairly easy to work with if you only change the length of the arm that moves the cable ( either at the trans or at the shifter ) . Further from the pivot will give you more cable travel per gate slot, closer to the pivot is less travel. I had to...

    Shifter question, dual gate shifter?

I'd say as long as the cable throw is correct per gear, even then it could be modified to change the distance the cable moves per gear. May have to get a cable made. Down side is you'd be cutting up a brand new part and if you mangle it you're out some $$...but none of us have EVER done that...

    7 1/4 rear strength

I've obliterated 3 of them ( all open rears ) 2 in slant cars, one in a 318. IMHO it's when and how bad it will fail. The spider gears went in all of them. Now that being said, I've daily driven a 7 1/4 rear for 6 years, 3 of those years with a manual, and 2 years with a turbo installed on the...

    A500 crossmember mods from inside?

Yep, I'll be doing almost the same thing. I've already done the cross member mount but have way too little clearance in some places so I've got to do it from the top. What I did initially was to cut the vertical pieces off the loop and weld in a flat piece. That got me all the clearance I...

    Slapstick mechanism pics request

Ok, so here are the pics of the first run on making a stopper gate. The first pic is the side view. The new gate sits lower and the stops are REALLY close together due to the small radius because of how low it has to sit to clear everything ( that big square block on the shifter ) This...

    Slapstick mechanism pics request

I don't hink the shift-R-gate will work on the Jeep shifter. I think I have it all figured out, some tricky stuff by the way. The "stopper" gate gets hit and removes all forward momentum from the shifter and then returns the pin ( thing that rides against the top gate ) to it's normal...

    Slapstick mechanism pics request

Preliminary testing is going well, first prototype of a lower gate ( more of a side gate ) to the jeep shifter proved promissing. 1st to 2nd shift stop seems to work well, but I botched the one for 2nd to D ( made it a little too far forward ) . The coolest thing is that if you shift normal...

    Slapstick mechanism pics request

Brain, I'm a waaaayy bigger idiot than just trying to put a stock slapstick in an A-body.... I'm thinking of modifying a jeep cherokee floor shifter ( for the 46RE trans that's in the car ). I'd have to get a stock one hack it to fit..AND convert it to cable operation...just not sure what is...

    Slapstick mechanism pics request

I'm looking for some information on how the slapstick mechanism works. I know the theory behind it, just looking for some detailed pics of the mechanism / gate plates. AND/OR if anyone has a video of the mechanism working that'd be freaking cool ( not of you shifting the thing while driving )...

    Vertical gate shifter mod?

Has anyone ever modded a vertical gate on an automatic shifter to include a Neutral lock out? for example adding just a smidge of a notch to not allow a std pattern 12DNRP to slide into N from drive? or am I a little mentally challenged tonight?

.....dude, couldn't you have posted a month ago. ..VERY interested as well...where exactly does the shifter come through the floor?

Dakota trans in an A body

auto, yes, manual, no. The preliminary measurements I took puts the shifter of the NV3500 right in the middle of the A/C vents under the dash, or so close that the under A/C box would have to undergo some modification...now if you're thinking about moving the vents into the dash, then we're...

    Speedometer Gremlins..........

I say mod the cable and if you're worried about fraying the cable, just solder up the end and smooth with a dremel, just like you would a wire to bind all of the threads together

Wow, Never seen one personally, but I've got a torque converter with a cracked one...weird for sure, time to play the lotto

I got a knocking from the rear end...help

Yeah, its one of those things that's so simple that you forget to do (tighten again after it gets set on the ground)...don't get me started... I recently found a pair of scissors wedged between the steering shaft and the fender well after investigating a slight scratching noise while turning. I...

I got a knocking from the rear end...help

Well, if it wasn't happening before you went to work on it, I'd revisit every bolt you took off and check for some loose lug nuts, a wheel that isn't TIGHT (steel or alum) will pop as the car rolls... don't ask me how I know :)

    Disconnecting Kickdown Linkage

Well, There is the local steak n shake (50 and 408 ) on Sat nights or the more organized Old town in Kiss. I've seen a few small cruises here and there but they don't seem to be a "regular" thing, I mean there a couple of weeks in a row and then nothing for a couple of months.... old-town April...

    Speedo gear

Cool, it's all 73 and newer stuff, the 904 is 73 and the 833 is 85ish. I did a search before I posted and saw the stuff about the eccentric carrier for the gear (basically lets you use diff output gears with the same main gear, cool ! ) but didn't know if the gears were the same from a 904 to...

    Speedo gear

I did a 4-speed swap and now my speedo is 14mph too slow. I know I can get a new gear and swap it in, but my question is can I just use the speedo drive gear out of the 904 in my 833-OD? The speedo was correct with the 904 in the car. Thanks Matt

    Off Topic: Dakota Clutch Prob

Just a shot in the dark, My 93 ranger would get hard to shift like your dakota when hot but only if the fluid was low with atf in it. Changed to gear oil and the problems went away. I'd think if it was a hyd in need of a bleed then you could double clutch (pump the pedal) and it would work like...

    getting the shaft?

So if I replace the u-joints it will put the thing out of balance??? really??? I suppose I have had a shaft do funny things when I managed to put one of the caps a little too far in. Yeah, both ends step down to the yokes, they cut enough to make it fit. I wanted 3 1/2 off but only manged to...

    getting the shaft?

I think I'm getting hosed. I took my driveshaft down to have it shortened after I called and was quoted $70 to shorten 3 1/2 and balance.... so I drive 45 minutes to have them tell me that they 1st can't shorten it the desired amount without taking some off both ends. 2nd, will only balance...
